There are regularly new rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2 these days. One of the big questions that needs to be clarified remains unanswered: Does the new hardware offer backwards compatibility and also play Switch titles? According to an insider, the first test runs are currently underway!
The Switch has proven to be immensely successful for Nintendo and is due to receive a successor shortly; The supposed Switch 2 could be presented as early as March at the GDC – and then perhaps an urgent question will be officially clarified: Will the new console also be able to play titles originally published for the Switch?
Given the success of the Switch, such a step would certainly make sense and would be desirable, but this has not worked in all cases in the past when changing console generations. In the case of the Switch 2, this would be all the more logical as the new hardware is rumored to be largely a further development of the previous Switch without too many changes.
Now the rumor mill is once again having its say on the subject – and so things are looking pretty good when it comes to the backwards compatibility of the new console. Nintendo partners would already be testing out a corresponding feature of the Switch 2 with their previous Switch titles.
At least that’s what the usually reliable and well-connected insider NateTheHate claimed via ResetEra
Of course, this rumor has not been officially confirmed at the moment. However, Nintendo fans can have legitimate hopes that they will be able to continue playing their expensive Switch games on the Switch 2.
