It is rare for console manufacturers to disclose monthly sales for their consoles by territory. For its part, Nintendo has a habit of updating total global sales of its consoles several times a year. Obviously pleased with the latest results, the Kyoto firm recently released its US figures.
Nintendo recently released the latest US sales for a variety of Switch models, including OLED. And that includes the first Nintendo Switch OLED sales. As mentioned earlier, the website is The edge was able to speak to Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America. And during that interview, the latter revealed that Nintendo sold 711,000 Switches in the US last October
No Switch Pro 4K, no problem
More interesting, Doug Bowser said 314,000 of those consoles were OLED switches. This means that 314,000 OLED switches found a buyer across the Atlantic in the month they were launched. And those 397,000 standard Switch + Switch Lite were sold in the US last month. So this means that 44.2% of switches sold in the US last month were OLED models. For Doug Bowser, the OLED switch has got off to a solid start. And the numbers for October are, in his opinion, an indicator of the demand during the festivities at the end of the year.
However, Doug Bowser points to a 3% decrease in Switch sales from October 2020. Unsurprisingly, component scarcity and its impact on switch production are highlighted. Although he states that Nintendo would like to offer regular shipments of Switch for the holiday season, uncertainties remain about the console’s availability. And this situation will continue in 2022, according to the Nintendo President.
Nintendo Switch is still at home in the US
As additional information, the NPD Group states that this sum helped the Switch top the charts in the United States last month. And this in terms of both units sold and the turnover generated. However, the NPD Group states that the PS5 will stay ahead of the revenue side year-round. The Switch is number 1 of the year in terms of volumes sold.
Does this American difference give any idea of the sales ratio between the first two Switch models and the OLED version? Unfortunately, this cannot be said due to the lack of figures. These statistics, published by Nintendo of America, are interesting nonetheless. Indeed, the American market is the most important in the world.
What do you think of these numbers? Do you think the relationship is similar in Europe and France? Are you planning to get a Switch by the end of the year? If so, which model will you use? Tell us all about it in the comments below.
