News business Nintendo Switch: sales targets lowered?
If all goes well, the Nintendo Switch will top 100 million copies sold before Christmas. But for several weeks now, the bosses of the Japanese company have been admitting that they are worried about production capacities.
A concern that according to the business newspaper Nikkei leads to lower goals for Nintendo. In March, the same newspaper announced that Nintendo had asked its various partners to prepare to launch 30 million copies of Switch. Nintendo has never confirmed or denied that estimate, but it haswould definitely have been revised downwards. Due to the shortage of semiconductors, Nintendo would now predict for sales of 24 million new switches at the end of the fiscal year 2021-2022, which will arrive on March 31, 2022.
A decrease of 20%, which, however, has to be put into perspective. No other so-called “home” console in the history of game consoles has ever sold so many copies in a single fiscal year (except for the Switch itself, which sold 28.8 million consoles in 2020-2021). In other words, if this decline is confirmed, it should not cause an earthquake among shareholders. as we would be facing the console’s second best year hybrid. We should have an idea of the facts in a few days Nintendo will publish its quarterly results by the end of the week.
