You certainly buy not only Nintendo Switch, but also accessories. We recommend these controllers, Joy-Con alternatives and protective foils.
If you afford the Nintendo Switch, you will surely want a few accessories to make your everyday life with the console easier and to have even more fun.
Here we put together a selection of accessories that our editors can use and recommend.
Let’s start with controllers, because it’s most fun in multiplayer when friends are over. In order to increase the gaming fun, we strongly recommend buying a decent controller. If this is to be wireless, the official Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is a good choice. It is easy to use and robust, but costs a whopping 55 to 63 dollars.
If the “wireless” feature is not that important to you, you can save a lot of money and buy the Horipad. It also offers a much better directional pad than Nintendo’s Joy-Con.
Better buttons than Joy-Con
If you mostly operate the switch in handheld mode, we can also recommend the Joy-Con alternative Hori Split Pad Pro. The hardware is larger than the Joy-Con, feels tackier, has larger buttons, and there’s a staggered analog stick layout like you’ll find on many gamepads.
We find it much more comfortable to play with this in handheld mode than with the somewhat squat Joy-Con. However, keep in mind that the Hori Split Pad Pro must always be attached directly to the console in order to work. Single use in one hand for games with motion controls should not be possible.

Hardware-Upgrade
You can currently buy the Nintendo Switch with OLED screen, cheaper than the normal price. We’ll tell you which shops you can get the console from before Christmas.
If you choose this accessory, you also have to consider that the console as a whole is so large that normal switch bags are too small. But there is special pockets for the Split Pad Pro
Bag for safe storage and transport
Also, if you often take the console with you when you leave the house, you should consider buying a bag anyway. Take a bag with compartments for games so they don’t fly loose. You can also protect the display of the console with a protective film.
For the Joy-Con, you should still consider buying a charging cradle, because you may not always want to charge it on the docking station.
Free Nintendo Switch Games
Save money and still play
Nintendo Switch has demos, free-to-play titles, and other free games. You can enjoy these games for free.
The above products are just a selection. Of course you have to see what you need for your needs, but maybe these tips will help you and save you a few dollars. You can then invest this money in really good Switch games.
Elsewhere we explain how you can connect a Pro Controller or Joy-Con to the Switch.
