nintendo is releasing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom It’s more expensive, but Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser says it’s worth it.
Games are getting more expensive to buy, partly because they’re getting more expensive to make (yes, I do realize partly because execs are getting paid so much). It’s only a matter of time before it somehow hits Nintendo, and it’s coming soon, as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is priced at £60, a £10 increase compared to its predecessor and other first-party Switch titles. Unsurprisingly, though, Bowser himself (the Nintendo boss, not the Lizardman) thinks it’s worth it.
In a series of conversations with The Associated Press, Bowser was asked about the new price point and how Nintendo arrived at it. “Let’s see what the game has to offer,” Bowser responded. “I think fans will find this an incredibly complete, deeply immersive experience. The price point reflects the type of experience fans can expect when they play this particular game. It’s not a price point we have to have Across all of our games. It’s actually a fairly common pricing model, whether it’s here or in Europe or other parts of the world, and the pricing can vary depending on the game itself.”
Whether or not it will come is largely up to the individual (our own Alex Donaldson thinks it will, but there are still some concerns about the game’s potentially unsustainable future). For some it won’t make much of a difference, especially compared to the £70 price tag of some PlayStation exclusives, but for others it will make or break the difference between getting a game. We’re still two months away from launch, so we’ll know soon.
