The First Descendant had a rocky start, but that didn’t stop it from attracting 10 million players in seven days.

Since its release earlier this month, The First Descendant has had its ups and downs. It started out strong, ranking right up there with Elden Ring on the Steam charts, which was impressive considering the recent release of Shadow of the Erdtree. But things have gone downhill since then, with many players mocking the game’s monetization system and some accusing the game of ripping off Destiny 2’s icon with little to no changes. The game currently has a “Mixed” rating on Steam, but even with all of these issues, it hasn’t actually stopped people from playing the game. According to the game’s official Twitter account, the game has attracted 10 million players “in just 7 days”!

“Thank you all for the overwhelming support and love,” the post continued. “It means everything to us. We’ll do our best to bring you an awesome experience. Can’t wait to continue this journey with all of you!” The wording is a little odd, as it says it hit 10 million players in seven days, but doesn’t say which seven days – the tweet was posted on July 12, but the game was released on July 2, which makes 10 days if my math is correct. It’s not really worth dwelling on, but it does get me a little excited at least.

It seems like it’s not just fans who are unhappy with the game, as the game hasn’t fared well with critics either. Nexon, the game’s developer, isn’t strapped for cash despite its size, but live service games are hard to maintain. The game may have 10 million players, but unless drastic changes are made, we’ll just have to wait and see how many of them leave. The first patch for the game was released earlier this week at least, so if you’re a fan of the looter shooter, there’s probably nothing to worry too much about just yet.
