In this No Rest for the Wicked

guide, we will be taking a look at a build that you can put together once you’ve reached the end of the early game around level 10–11 and go into the mid-game, which you can put together for levels 11–20 and potentially beyond.

No Rest For the Wicked Inquisitor Build

This build will utilize a unique rapier weapon type that requires and scales with Faith, fitting the role of an Inquisitor.

Rapiers are a fast-attacking weapon type that can deliver a series of quick thrusts, allowing us to quickly trigger status effects or break the poise of enemies readily.

Gear and Spells

For the Plague Inquisitor buildwe will be using the Siren Queen’s Horn Rapier as our primary weapon.

This is a one-handed rapier weapon type that you start to find around level 12and depending on the item level, it will require at least 27 points in the Faith attribute to equip at item level 6.

The Siren Queen’s Horn is unique in its moveset because it has an attacking move similar to a rune attack as its regular combo finisher and its dash attack, where you will perform a flurry of stabbing attacks.

In this guide, we will be taking a look at one of the early game builds that can help you when you’re starting out and will help you on your journey.

Although this attack does not deal a lot of damage, it will break the poise of most enemies—except bosses—without fail or trigger whatever status effect you have imbued your weapon with at the moment.

The Siren Queen Horn’s default rune spell is the Plague Throw spell.

This spell costs 100 focus points to cast and will throw your rapier in front of you like a boomerang, which will return to you, damaging enemies both on its way out and back to you.

Although this rune attack by itself does not deal a lot of damage, it will give you a ranged option in addition to building up the Plague infection status effect.

For the second spell, we will be using the Plague Swirl spell found on the Horned Frenzy Wakizashi weapon.

This attack performs a single swirling attack that knocks back and interrupts enemies while building up the Plague infection status effect.

Although this attack does not deal a lot of damage by itself, it offers a reliable way of interrupting and stunning enemies for the rapier, whose inherent abilities are low.

For the third spell, we will be using a Spin rune that can be extracted from the Blood-Rusted Sword.

This is a simple attack that deals a high amount of damage, costing 100 focus points, and will add a high-damage output rune attack to the Siren Queen’s Horn, bolstering one of its few weaknesses.

For the fourth spell, we will be using the Plague Enchantment spell.

This spell will imbue your rapier with fire, adding Plague damage to your regular attacks for the duration of the spell, increasing your damage output as well as allowing you to continue the Plague infection status effect buildup, which will add damage over time upon triggering.

At this point in the game, it is advisable to have two main weapon slots, which will allow the possibility of having eight spells at your disposal instead of four from a single weapon slot. Ideally, I would recommend having a weapon with the Heal Aura spell, which will allow you to use focus points to heal instead of consuming food in the second slot.

But Plague Ichor is an extremely rare resource, and if you’ve spent it for other upgrades to help with inventory management or increasing your Hunger Limit, you can slot in the Heal Aura spell while the build’s effectiveness will remain the same.

In the offhand slot, we will be equipping the Azure Griffin Shield.

This shield is a medium shield that offers a considerable amount of defense when blocking while not encumbering you with a heavy weight load. Although blocking does not mitigate all the damage, using this medium shield in addition to heavier armor pieces will reduce the damage considerably.

Armor Pieces

Embodying the role of an Inquisitor means you will have to face off against the enemies of the Faith, and you will have to be able to withstand some adversity. To that end, we will be equipping armor pieces that can offer us the maximum amount of defensive value.

For this particular build, we will be using:

  • Tanith Vanguard Cap

  • Tanith Captain Armor

  • TANITHMITER LEG GUARDS

  • Tanith Captain Gloves

These are all mesh armor pieces offering a lot of defensive value, allowing us to take extra hits before going down.

Affixes and Enchantments

Even though the Siren Queen’s Horn has a very good regular attacking combo and moveset, its physical damage output can feel lacking.

The damage output of this build and using this weapon depends mostly on rune attack spells, and as such, we are looking for enchanted gear with affixes such as increased Focus gain and decreased Focus costs.

Having these modifiers on the build will help greatly with gaining the necessary focus points required to unleash the powerful attacks.

In addition, affixes such as Increased Stamina Regeneration and decreased stamina costs are also helpful, as they will allow you to land more hits with your rapid attack speed before needing to rest to regain your stamina.

We will be avoiding affixes that make resource management harder, especially Focus, since this will make it harder for you to use the main source of burst damage in this build.

Rings

For this build, we will be using two ring slots:

For the first ring, we are using the Agility Ringwhich will reduce the stamina cost of your actions while also increasing your movement speed.

This will even enhance the mobility advantage of this build, making it possible for you to dodge your enemies’ attacks with much greater ease.

For the second ring, we will be using the Calmness Bandwhich will increase our Max Focus and Focus gain by a set percentage depending on the item level of the ring.

Having this ring will tremendously help with this build, as it will allow you to access the highest-damage moves more frequently.

Another good option is the Feather Ringwhich will increase your equip load by a set percentage, and using this can help you wear heavier armor pieces while keeping your weight class in the “Normal” range, offering you more protection indirectly.

If you only have a single ring slot when you are putting this build together, I suggest prioritizing the Agility Ring, as speed is the main advantage we are using with this build.

Gems

The Plague Inquisitor build depends on rapid Focus generation to overwhelm enemies or chain rune attacks. Prioritize gems that enhance Focus gain and Max Focus.

  • Chipped Jewel: Boosts Max Focus by 4–15%, applicable to weapons and armor.
  • Chipped Emerald: Increases Max Stamina (also 4–15%), usable across gear.
  • Chipped Topaz: Increases Focus gain—essential for rune-spam strategies. Slot these into all armor pieces with only one gem slot.

Consumables

While no consumables are mandatory, they can improve consistency:

  • Focus and Stamina Potions: Help manage resources mid-fight.
  • Bombs: Offer ranged burst options for crowds or elite enemies.
  • Scale Oils : Infuse your rapier with the element most effective against your current foe.

You can use either the Flamescale, Frostscale, Plaguescale, or Sparkscale Oils to imbue your rapier with any element of your choice, depending on the enemy you are facing at the moment.

Stat Allocation

This build is one of the many builds that you can put together if you have emphasized putting your points in the Faith attribute and can easily be built into from an early-game Faith-based build.

As you reach around level 12, aim for:

  • 15 Health (150 HP)
  • 15 Stamina (70 SP)
  • 14–15 Focus (170–176 FP)
  • Equip Load stat for at least 200 max load

By level 20, aim for:

  • 20 Health
  • 20 Stamina
  • 30 Faith
  • 18 Focus
  • 18 Equip Load

But if you are confident in your dodging and parrying skill, you can invest some of the points from the Health attribute into Faith for an increase in damage or into either Stamina or Focus for easier resource management.

Do keep in mind that you will need at the very least a value of 280 in maximum Equip Load to be able to equip all Mesh armor pieces and use the rapier and the shield without going into the Heavyweight class.

Final Thoughts

The Plague Inquisitor build is a Faith-based build that offers you a well-rounded character that does not have any glaring weaknesses. Although this is the case, regular attacks by themselves will not deal a lot of damage, and you will need to use rune attacks as your main source of damage.

While strong at close range, this build can struggle with ranged enemies, especially if you are fighting a group of them. Getting hit with ranged attacks while you are fighting another enemy or trying to chase a ranged enemy can be really annoying, and the Plague Throw spell is there to help you deal with ranged enemies in such situations.

Another thing to keep in mind when using this build is that although the multi-stabbing attack move is really great for breaking poise and building up status effects, it has very little staggering ability unless it breaks the poise.

It will also lock you in animation, so if you do not break the poise with this attack, you are guaranteed to get hit. Even though the high defensive value of the build will help you withstand attacks from regular enemies, getting caught in a long combo from a boss can quickly prove fatal.

So, this wraps up my guide to putting together the Plague Inquisitor build for No Rest for the Wicked. I hope you find this guide helpful on your journey through the island of Sacra.
