The Chinese Communist Party has officially cancelled Nova, a tactical FPS Eve Online derivative project.
CCP's parent company Pearl Abyss announces cancellation Nova Project According to Massively's latest financial report.
The company said that the gaming experience demonstrated at EVE Vegas 2018 will not “ fulfill our ambitious goals for this concept. Instead, it plans to continue "developing our sci-fi multiplayer shooter concept", but it will get rid of what was previously called Project Nova. The game's development team in Iceland has also moved to other projects.
This is the full statement posted on reddit:
We will continue to develop the concept of sci-fi multiplayer shooter and actively expand it beyond the original scope of the original codename Project Nova. Now, the focus of CCP's London studio is to develop around this concept. Members of the Nova project team from Iceland have moved to other projects in Reykjavik's studio.
This decision was made because the game experience of Project Nova proposed at EVE Vegas-18 did not achieve our ambitious goal of this concept. Also, games under active development will evolve over time, which is usually quite common. We are always committed to providing first-class visual effects and providing a rock-solid, action-oriented gaming experience, but since the scope and direction of the sci-fi multiplayer shooter concept has changed significantly, it also makes sense to update our citations internally Work on the project. Therefore, we no longer use the codename Project Nova for this game concept.
In addition, we will no longer publicly announce the code names of our internal projects and will wait until we are ready for full disclosure. We want to show you rather than tell you how we developed the concept, and we look forward to showing it as a mature game when needed.
The game was formed by a joint venture between EVE maker CCP and UK-based studio Sumo Digital, and was set as the spiritual successor to Dust 514 in EVE Online. Back in October 2018, CCP stated that it had suspended production of the project to "return to the drawing board."
