Gothic fans are having a pretty good week right now: just yesterday new details about the remake became known, such as what changes in spells and fights.
Peter has written a passionate column about the best moment of Gothic 2. And today there’s news again! They come from the second part of the interview by William Schubert for Techradar.
For example, it is now known how much bigger the valley of mines will be

What’s changing in the valley of mines?
The map gets bigger: Before you get out the wolf knives and torches, wait a minute: In the interview, Pollice emphasized again that they wanted to stay as close to the original as possible. However, many new details should make the valley of mines even more lively than before – and for this reason more space is needed.
Expressed in numbers, this means that the map will be around ten to fifteen percent larger than the original. So the old nested feeling should be preserved, but at the same time the world should be loosened up a bit.
Pick locks: In the original, we kneel motionless in front of boxes and use the arrow keys to try to crack them open while our nameless hero mumbles to himself. Has there ever been a more satisfying sound than the click as we guess the right direction? Hopefully that stays the same! What should change, however, is the presentation. We will probably get a new interface, but there are no details about it yet.
New quest lines: So far, the old camp was always a little more profound than the new camp and the cult crackpots. This should be the end of the remake – everything remains fundamentally the same, but the developers are expanding quest lines and plugging logic holes.
The armor variants: An announcement that has been making waves among fans for a long time: the NPCs should wear different armor in the remake. For example with a unique shoulder plate. Or perhaps a traveling templar’s armor is more worn than that of temple guards. However, it is not yet entirely clear whether we will also be allowed to design our own armor. According to Pollice, this is currently being chewed through internally and only installed if it offers added value in terms of play.
A Gothic for Gothic fans
Since the first teaser for Gothic Remake was released, developer Alkimia Interactive has said many times that they’ve heard the feedback. As much as possible should remain as before. Because the remake should rather convince die-hard fans than win new players:
The primary goal is that we want to convince the fan base that the remake offers so much added value that they say: The remake is totally worth playing. If there are RPG players who have never had anything to do with Gothic before and find a way into this world through the remake, then that’s a bonus.

Gradually the concrete hints are condensed and put together an image of the Gothic Remake. But how much the return to the valley of mines will really carry us away and whether we’ll feel at home there again, we probably won’t know until the release. There is still no specific date for that.
