With the new RTX 50 graphics cards, Nvidia started the new year, but also not without breakdowns. As has now been known, some copies have too few rops.
The new RTX graphics cards are now on the market and are very popular and lean availability. Gradually, however, there are also some problems, although once again the 12VHPWR connection is an issue.
As has now become known, there is another problem, because some copies have been traded with too few render output units (ROP). RTX 5090 reports, which have only 168 on board instead of 176 ROPS, models have also appeared on the RTX 5070 Ti, which have 8 ROPs less than specified.
In the meantime, Nvidia has officially confirmed the problem and gave a house number how many of the new graphics cards are affected and what effect the lack of ROPS.
“We have found a rare problem that concerns less than 0.5 % (half a percent) of the GeForce RTX 5090/5090D, RTX 5080 and 5070 TI graphics processors that have fewer ROPs than specified,” said the company in a statement to The Versge. “The average impact on the graphic performance is 4 %, without effects on KI and Rechen-Workloads. Affected consumers can contact the graphics cards manufacturers to get replacement. The production anomaly has been remedied.”
Other models from NVIDIA should not be affected and the error should no longer occur on the RTX 5070, which will soon be released. If you want to know whether it is affected, for example, you can Tool wie GPU-Z download. If your RTX 5090 176 ROPS, an RTX 5080 112 ROPS and an RTX 5070 Ti 96 ROPS are in order. If 8 ROPs are shown less, your card is one of the few exceptions that you can complain about, you do not want to live with the somewhat lower performance.
Nvidia has not yet commented on the causes of the production error and why it was not recognized in quality control.
