Around two years ago, Nvidia presented the feature called the “RTX Video Super Resolution” (RTX VSR). With this videos played in the browser are scaled up to the resolution of your screen using a AI model.
At the beginning, only chromium browsers were possible as the basis, in a later update the support for the Mozilla Firefox was also added.
The VLC Media Player can also handle RTX VSR. Loud Nvidia Can you bring youtube clips or video files on your computer from an original Full HD resolution to the full 4K resolution of your monitor.

Initially, RTX video was reserved exclusively for the generations around RTX 3000 and RTX 4000, at a later date the function was also submitted for the RTX 20 series.
- A major criticism regardless of the Nvidia graphics card used was the energy consumption, which in some cases went to the possible maximum of the GPU. According to the portal Videocardz This is said to have been between 70 and 240 watts.
- Also in the comments on our article at the time expressed users that the consumption increased to 250 watts when scaling a 1080p video to 1440p – while the maximum TDP was 260 watts.
Nvidia now wants to have at least partially accepted this problem. As the company writes in the FAQ on RTX video, there is also an update for the feature in the course of the new version of the NVIDIA app.
As a result, RTX VSR was “updated by an efficient AI model, which consumes up to 30% fewer GPU resources in the highest quality setting.” In addition, HDR videos can also be scaled up after the update.

RTX Video Super Resolution: How to activate the feature
RTX Video Super Resolution can be set up either via the classic NVIDIA control control or the new NVIDIA app, which has been replacing the well-known GeForce Experience since the end of last year.
Within the Nvidia app you will find the setting for RTX VSR in the »System« tab. Select the “System” menu item here to get to RTX video improvement. The feature is deactivated by default.
The author promises that RTX Video Super Resolution is only active for the screenshot and otherwise does not run a Let's Play video on the second monitor.
In addition to the automatic setting of RTX VSR, you can also manually select how much power the feature should claim. NVIDIA explicitly explicitly explicitly explicitly explicit that “as much GPU performance is used as necessary here to offer the best possible super resolution quality”.
If you want to make the setting instead via the NVIDIA control control, you will find the same options in the “video” area under “Adjust video image settings”.
