Annapurna Interactive is on a roll. Over the past few years, the publisher has proven itself to be the go-to for innovative, fun, and slightly irreverent games, carefully curated and presented by developers from around the world.
Unless you live in seclusion, you’ve probably seen the fawning coverage of games like Donut County, Outer Wilds, Sayonara Wild Hearts, What Remains of Edith Finch, Telling Lies, Neon White, and Stray over the past few years. And with good reason.

But one of the best examples of Annapurna’s recent work is 2023’s Thirsty Suitors, a narrative action-adventure game about culture, relationships, family pressures, and food. The game feels like a South Asian version of Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, by way of Persona (yes, it’s very unique). Right from the start, you get a sense of what Thirsty Suitors is trying to do, and you take an online quiz to decide your “Thirstsona,” ultimately becoming a Heartbreaker, Star, or Bohemian. Just like in real life.
A big selling point for the game is how the main character, Jarrah, deals with everyday life and how to survive in a modern world full of modern problems. But for the player, the small development team of just 14 people put a lot of effort into how the player expresses themselves – both in narrative choices and in progressing through the RPG elements. It’s a small, fun, and engaging game that I highly recommend everyone to try.
Now it’s easier to do, because soon anyone with a Netflix account will be able to play games for free, which is a big boon for the service considering that most people (i.e. 1% of Netflix’s 200 million users) don’t even know that games are available through Netflix.
Thirsty Suitors was released on PlayStation, Xbox (and Xbox Game Pass), Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam) in November 2023, and I don’t think it’s gotten as much attention as it deserves (despite critical acclaim). So if you’re craving a “battle your ex, disappoint your parents, and find yourself” game, just fire up the Netflix app on your phone and start playing. It’s surreal, story-driven, and a breakup simulator; what’s not to like?
The publisher hasn’t announced an exact release date yet (we’ve reached out to ask), but it’s coming soon, so keep an eye out every time you open the app.
