One of my favorite consoles of all time is Super Nintendo, the legendary 16-bit machine from Nintendo that has left us with an infinite number of essential jewels, especially for RPG lovers. If we were to name them all, a considerably long list would remain, although some of them did not end up being released in the rest of the world, leaving us wanting to taste them.
One of the most symbolic cases was that of Seiken Densetsu 3, the exceptional sequel to Secret of Mana that was impossible to get hold of in Europe. We had to wait until the publication of Collection of Mana on Nintendo Switch to enjoy this game that received the name of Trials of Mana, but Square Enix wanted to go even further, which led it to develop a brilliant remake.
The title in question was launched a few years ago on the occasion of its 25th birthday and something that will make PlayStation Plus users happy is that they will be able to download and play it if they are signed up for the levels PlayStation Plus Extra y Premium. It will only suffice to access PlayStation Store to get hold of it and discover the magic that surrounds it to be one of those RPGs that will keep you hooked on the controls for dozens of hours.
The various stories in a world that has been completely recreated
The history of this game tells us that long ago the Goddess of Mana was in charge of facing and defeating the Benevodones, some fearsome creatures that she defeated with the Sword of Mana, leaving them trapped in the so-called Mana Stones in order to that chaos would not reign in the world again. Unfortunately, peace does not last forever, and because the Mana’s power has weakened, the Benevodons have resurfaced.
The plot progresses with a magnificent rhythm constantly, inviting us at the beginning of everything to select three heroes out of a total of six available. Each of them stands out with their own personality, abilities, stats, and most important of all, their own backstory. More than anything because the first character that is chosen will be the one on which all the weight of the plot will fall and will become the main one of all.
This choice is vital because some dungeons and bosses will be different depending on which leader is selected. In the end, it leaves us with three plot arcs that in turn will affect certain conversations that will vary, to which is added that certain characters will be exclusive to certain routes and will also affect certain cinematics that will parade on the screen.
For this reason, the game invites you in an excellent way to spend the adventure and start it from the beginning with different characters in order to better appreciate what has changed and learn about another series of events that are focused on certain protagonists. In short, it can easily take you more than a hundred hours get to see all that this RPG can offer.
But if there is something that also makes this remake very special, it is that the world has been completely renovated in 3D. Despite this, the recreation that has been carried out is very faithful as the same areas are present, although the dimensions of all the scenarios have increased a lot, especially due to the fact that now the gameplay has become in a third person point of view.
For his part, history has been respected to the heartalthough the only change that can be missed is that a multiplayer mode for two people has been dispensed with.
Impressive combat with strengthened characters and enemies
The fact that the point of view is different also implies that the action has become even more direct. Each of the characters makes use of a basic attack and a stronger one, to which is added that the more damage the enemies suffer, they will release some splinters that manage to increase the power of the heroes so that they unleash their attacks more wreckers.
What’s more, these powerful techniques are preceded by their corresponding sequences and the opportunity has also been taken to equip them with new abilities, such as the possibility of dodging blows more easily, which makes it easier not to suffer damage, and you can also jump, in order to execute new types of attacks and to go through more vertical scenarios.
As if that weren’t enough, the protagonists have been given stat points to share among a number of sections and can learn new classes, which means that their functions will be different when distributing mandanga. On the other hand, having so many classes and abilities makes the party more balanced and versatile.
However, the protagonists are not the only ones who have been strengthened, because the Benevodons have new attacks and patterns, so that these encounters become more spectacular and challenging compared to the original title. Even so, not everything is fighting non-stop, because dozens of Cactolillos are hidden throughout the world that are used to unlock additional advantages.
The icing on the cake of this amazing remake is provided by its wonderful soundtrack composed by Hiroki Kikutawith remastered versions of the same songs, while the voices can be heard in English and Japanese with Spanish subtitles.
