One Piece is one of the greatest animes of all time; for over 1,100 episodes, Luffy and his friends have been searching for the legendary pirate treasure that gives it its name. Fans expected a new episode every week, only a few exceptions broke this rule – until now.
As has now been announced on various official social media platforms, One Piece will be taking a break of several months. This doesn’t mean the manga, instead the team is putting the anime on hold for a whole six months. That’s right, you no longer get a new episode every week, but have to wait six months until the current Egghead arc continues.
The break runs from now until April 2025. The reason for this: the team wants to significantly increase the animation quality. Although Wa No Kuni has already received a lot of praise for the much better visuals, apparently that’s not enough for the producers.

In any case, this is a very interesting time for such a break. According to mangaka Eiichirō Oda, the story is currently in its final stages. The past has already proven that this can involve several dozen chapters. Nevertheless, the manga is likely to end well before the anime, which poses some risk of spoilers for viewers only.
Of course, the slot on Japanese television does not remain unfilled. A revised week of the Fishman Island arc will be shown there in the coming week, which will feature new light and shadow effects as well as completely new animated previews for the next episode and a fresh opening and ending. Additionally, the arc was shortened from 57 to 21 episodes. If you want to see the fresh fish, you can do so in the Japanese original sound with German subtitles on Crunchyroll.
After the break, One Piece will get a new slot on Japanese television. We will find out more about this on December 22, 2024 as part of Jump Festa 25.
Strong news for all fans in any case. Especially since we probably have to wait quite a while until the second season of the live-action film and the anime remake from WIT Studio won’t exactly be released the day after tomorrow.
