It should be well known that live service games thrive on active players who are always happy about new content. In the case of Babylon’s Fall, however, the concept doesn’t work at all. That’s not because developer Platinum Games isn’t adding new content, it’s because almost nobody is interested in the action role-playing game and its updates.
This was already the case for the March release, when fewer than 700 players took a look on the day of release:
Babylon’s Fall:
Hardly anyone notices the new game from the Nier makers
In the last few weeks there has been absolutely no improvement. On the contrary: Babylon’s Fall reached its sad low point in the past few days, when only one player was online at the time.
Hardly anyone plays Babylon’s Fall
1,166 players – this is Babylon’s Fall’s previous record for concurrent active players, as per the website Steamcharts
Throughout the month of April were on average only 86 players active at the same timein the last 30 days the number has even dropped to 60 players – although until April 26 there is a big collaboration event with Nier: Automata, the previous hit game from Platinum Games. But even that could not help Babylon’s fall.
The previous low point followed on May 4th at 1:00 a.m.: At the time, there was only one player on Steam in Babylon’s Fall. According to their own statements, this is the Twitter user Dashiellwoodwho in the meantime this success
put in the Twitter bio:

However, it should be mentioned that the number of players could be an error or a server maintenance. Only an hour later, according to the steam charts, 28 players were active again – but of course that’s far from a real success story.
Despite the flop: More content is to follow
Such low player counts are usually the death knell for a game that relies on online and live service elements. However, Babylon’s Fall is not only available on the PC, but the action role-playing game was also released for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. However, there is no information about the current number of players.

In addition, Platinum Games and Square Enix promised that support for Babylon’s Fall will continue. The work on a second season has already been almost completed and further seasons are already being planned – at least that’s the status shortly after the release.

It remains to be seen whether these plans will actually be adhered to or whether there has been a rethink in the meantime. But if the player numbers remain at the current level, Babylon’s case could be over sooner than you thought at the beginning.
