With victories at the Producers Guild Awards (PGA), the Writers Guild Awards (WGA), Directors Guild Awards (DGA) and the Critics' Choice Awards is “Anora” The great contender to the trophy as the best film. In addition, of course, the winning of the Golden Palm at the Film Festival from Cannes 2024.
This statistically makes “Anora” a pioneer. Of the last 15 “Best Film” winners, 12 winners have also won the PGA Awards. In the past 96 years, the winning film had previously won the DGA Awards in 69 cases.
But not to be neglected are also “the brutalist” and “concrete”. At the Golden Globe Awards, the former won the prize as the best drama, while “Conclave” was awarded the BAFTAS as the best film.

Sean Baker for “Anora” is very likely as the best director. With his award at the DGA Awards as the best director, he is statistically high up: in the 96 years in which the Oscars are awarded, the DGA winner has always received the direct to eight times.
The strongest competitor is Brady Corbet for “the brutalist”. Corbet has received the prize as the best director for both the BAFTAS and the Golden Globes. Anyone who takes the race here is one of the most exciting questions of this year's Oscars.
Oscars – best director: these are all nominees
- Jacques Audiard – Emilia Pérez
- Sean Baker – Anora
- Brady Corbet – Der Brutalist
- Coralie Fargeat – The Substance
- James Mangold – Like A Complete Unknown
Best main actor: Adrien Brody (the brutalist) The brutalist: Brady Corbet's three and a half-hour epic with Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce. (Source: Universal Pictures / tmdb.org)
Adrien Brody has had a very good Award season. He won the Golden Globes, the BAFTA Awards and the Critics' Choice Awards. The only damper: With the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG), he went out empty. Here Timothée Chalamet won as Brodys's strongest competitor for “Like a Complete Unknown”.
For Brody it would be the second Oscar, he already won the trophy as the best main actor for “the pianist” (2002) – at just 29 years. The youngest award winner in the category so far. However, if Chalamet prevails, he would not only make Brody in direct comparison, but also break his record.
Chalamet is also 29 years old, just as old as Brody back then, but Brody was already approaching the 30 in his victory, while Chalamet is only 29 years old. Chalamet would be a few months younger than Brody 2002 in a win.
Oscars – best leading actor: these are all nominated
- Adrien Brody – the brutalist
- Timothée Chalamet – Like A Complete Unknown
- Colman Domingo – Sing Sing
- Ralph Fiennes – Conceptions
- Sebastian Stan – The Apprentice – The Trump Story
The best leading actress: Demi Moore (The Substance) On the one hand, “The Substance” receives praise among critics, but on the other hand, due to some scenes, causes horror. (Source: Themoviedb.org)
Demi Moore has been in the film business for over 40 years, but has never won an Oscar. That will very likely change soon. For “The Substance”, Moore has already won many important prizes that are considered an indicator of the Oscar.
Moore already received the prize as the best leading actress from the Golden Globes, the Critics' Choice Awards and the SAG Awards. Only with the BAFTA Awards did she have to take up against Mikey Madison for “Anora”. With the current forecasts, Moore is still ahead of Madison.
Oscars – best leading actress: these are all nominated
- Cynthia Erivo – Wicked
- Karla Sofía Gascón – Emilia Pérez
- Mikey Madison – Arano
- Demi Moore – The Substance
- Fernanda Torres – I’m Still Here
Best supporting actor: Kieran Culkin (a Real Pain) “A Real Pain” (2025) (which: tmdb.org)
The Oscar Awards 2025 is relatively unpredictable, but the secondary activity category is as clear as rare. Kieran Culkin has cleared all important prices. He received the prize as the best supporting actor from the Golden Globes, the Critics' Choice, the Baftas and the SAG Awards.
Oscars – best supporting actor: these are all nominated
- Shows borissow – anora
- Kieran Culkin – A Real Pain
- Edward Norton – Like A Complete Unknown
- Guy Pearce – Der Brutalist
- Jeremy Strong – The Apprentice – The Trump Story
Other Nebendarstellerin: Zoe Saldana (Emlia Pérez) Emilia Pérez (2024) (which: tmdb.org)
In the secondary actress category, too, it is basically clear this year at the Oscars in advance who will win. For “Emilia Pérez”, Zoe Saldana has already won the prize as the best supporting actress at the BAFTA Awards, the Critics' Choice Awards, the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards.
The Oscar is basically almost safe. Ariana Grande is the strongest competitor to “Wicked”, who, however, has not yet won a single important or decisive price against Saldana in the Oscar race.
Oscars – best supporting actress: these are all nominated
- Monica Barbaro – Like A Complete Unknown
- Ariana Grande – Wicked
- Felicity Jones – the brutalist
- Isabella Rossellini – Konklave
- Zoe Saldana – Emilia Pérez
Even if Zoe Saldana is nominated for “Emilia Pérez” as the best supporting actress, while Karla Sofía Gascón is the best leading actress in the race, Saldana actually has more screen time. It can be seen for 58 minutes and 42 seconds in the film, while lead actress “only” can be seen 47 minutes and 13 seconds.
