Outlook: This is how you delete the cache

Attachments such as photos, videos or documents automatically end up in Outlook’s cache after receiving an email. This buffer memory, also called cache, fills up increasingly and then takes away important storage space. In addition, the data stored may include confidential information that is visible to anyone with access to your computer.

If you care about your privacy, you should clear the cache at regular intervals to avoid unnecessary data ballast. With the following points in the instructions you can find the cache and free it again.

This is how you clean the Outlook cache on Windows

  1. 1

Enter “%appdata%” (without quotes) in the Windows search bar. Opens the directory by clicking on the corresponding entry.

  2. 2

Now navigate to the “Content.Outlook” directory via Local > Microsoft > Windows > Temporary Internet Files.

  3. 3

Within the folder there is another folder. This has an arbitrary character string as a name.

  4. 4

Opens the folder and then deletes all files from it. Once this has happened, your Outlook cache is cleaned.
