Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller took to Twitter to clarify the passive healing abilities that will be given to each hero in the game’s ninth season. Turns out, he decided revealing this little tweak separately might not have been the best idea.
If you’ve been living under a rock, or just stopped paying attention to Overwatch 2, Blizzard revealed in a recent blog post that every character will be getting passive healing abilities by default this season. While the adjustment was supported by some supporters, it was also widely criticized by players, who felt it would dilute the role of the game’s support heroes, whose jobs involve a lot of passive healing.

Now, Keller has addressed the controversy in a Twitter post (thanks to GamesRadar ). “Clarifying some things [regards to] Self-healing, he wrote, “is part of a larger set of changes coming to the game [season nine]”.
“Internally, we are discussing and targeting some changes to damage spikes in the game, the role of DPS in ensuring kills, and healing intensity.”
The developer went on to admit that announcing the change in a vacuum might not be the best way to avoid causing confusion among players, who are ultimately unsure of what exactly it means for the game.
“It would be wrong to talk about this isolated change out of context because it is part of a larger change that is coming,” Keller said. [season nine].Sorry, I look forward to more discussion [season nine] When we give up more details, the balance changes. “

So now we wait to see what exactly these broader changes, as well as changes involving a little self-help, will look like, and whether they’ll be enough to appease the angry angels and Moira’s hordes. It was a shame how Blizzard went about telling them this big adjustment was coming, which set off alarm bells.
Given that Overwatch 2 Season 9 doesn’t yet have a specific release date (it’s expected to be released around February), it might be a while before more information is revealed.
