Overwatch 2: Online Action Game makes the leap to Steam

Action, game, Leap, Online, Overwatch, Steam

So far, Blizzard’s popular online action game Overwatch 2 has avoided Steam, but that’s about to change! In a few weeks, the title will also be available on Valve’s popular PC platform.

If you wanted to play Overwatch 2 on the PC, you had to use the developer studio’s own Battle.net. But now Blizzard Entertainment is going a step further and confirming that the title will now land on Valve’s popular PC platform Steam.

A press release on the matter states that the studio is evolving and that they want to make it as easy as possible for gamers around the world to access their titles, regardless of the platform they choose. Battle.net remains the home of all PC gamers of Blizzard titles, but gaming as a whole has evolved and is no longer tied to specific, separate communities.

For this reason, they now want to try something new and will make Overwatch 2 available for PC via Steam on August 10, 2023. Other Blizzard games will follow at a later date, so Overwatch 2 is just the beginning. The team-based game in the free-to-play model has been identified as the “perfect title” in the game portfolio to make a Steam debut. The previous Battle.net version is not affected by this step and can continue to be used as usual; it is just an additional option for PC gamers. However, it will still be necessary to link the game obtained via Steam to a Battle.net account.
