Overwatch 2 has been struggling with problems for a long time and they are now apparently affecting the planned PvE content. Bad news for players who were hoping for this.
Anyone who was still hoping that there would be more PvE content for Overwatch 2 should, according to new reports, be on the lookout. There were already three PvE missions last year, but the package apparently sold so poorly that the other planned content for the PvE mode has now apparently been canceled.
At least that’s what a current one says Report at Bloomberg out. In addition, the majority of the PvE team is said to have been withdrawn in January as part of the layoffs at Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. The focus on the basic, team-based experience that was announced last year now appears to be being put into practice.
Overwatch 2 seems to continue to stumble and the revenue from the shooter sequel apparently doesn’t look rosy either. Typically, employees at Blizzard receive semi-annual bonus payments based on the sales of the respective game and the Overwatch team apparently already came away empty-handed in August 2023 and things aren’t looking any better this month either, according to the report.
Not receiving a profit share is rare at Blizzard and is the result of a major policy change that went into effect in 2023. Previously, employees received bonuses based on the company’s overall performance. Since last summer, however, payouts have been tied to the performance of individual franchises. Because their titles were more successful in 2023, the teams behind games like Diablo and World of Warcraft received bonuses this month, but the Overwatch developers weren’t so lucky.
Just a few days ago, Blizzard announced that it would be decoupling future heroes from the Battle Pass in order to make the game at least a little more attractive for players.
