The ongoing California State lawsuit of toxic and discriminatory work conditions continues to affect, in this case, a character in Overwatch.
As announced, a character in Overwatch will get a new name on October 26th. The reason is actually in the context of the ongoing lawsuit against Activision Blizzard, because said character was named after an employee who left the company in this context in August. Jeese McCree will therefore be called Cole Cassidy in the future. In the future, game characters should no longer be given the names of real employees.
This opens up an opportunity for Overwatch players. As part of the renaming, players will have the opportunity to change their battle tag, i.e. their online name in the game, free of charge. From now until November 5th you have the opportunity to revise your outdated or perhaps embarrassing BattleTags.
“As we introduce a new name, you might have the desire to do the same. Starting 22 October, 2021 and continuing through 5 November, 2021, all players will be offered a free BattleTag name change. This applies to anyone who does not currently have a free name change available. Existing name changes will not stack for future use.”
But be careful, there is only one free change available to you, so think carefully about what you are doing.
