We puzzled for a long time, now it’s finally clear. The first major patch for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is coming in two weeks. As usual in Europey, the release of Patch 9.1 falls on Wednesday 30.06.2021 and you will most likely be able to play after maintenance is complete.
Blizzard announced this on Twitter (where the American date, i.e. June 29, is given) and immediately sent a little teaser:

That’s in Patch 9.1
After we have already explored the Shadowlands thoroughly and Count Denathrius has probably taken a beating from us for the thirtieth time in Castle Nathria (or distributed it to us if things went badly), the new update finally brings fresh content into play
This is new in patch 9.1:
- New story campaign
- New area in the gullet called Korthia
- New raid called Sanctum of Dominion
- Mythical mega-dungeon called Tazavesh, the veiled market
- Flying in the Shadowlands
- New wing and adjustments for Torghast
- Beginning of Season 2 for Mythic + and PvP
- 40 new levels of fame
- New cosmetic pact armor
- New skills for the soul bond
- New mounts and pets
- New legendarys
- New world boss
We have summarized all information about the individual content in a detailed preview. There you will also find comments from the developers on the individual content:

In addition to the new areas and the new raid, players are particularly looking forward to finally being able to take to the skies in Shadowlands. So far, flying in the Shadowlands was not possible, with Patch 9.1 you only have to complete the new pact campaign.
You can see what the new pact campaign is about in the trailer and if you need a little refresher on Azeroth’s story, read our Shadowlands story recap again.
