Pegasus Estremo Evo: This is currently the cheapest e-bike with a Pinion motor

In the 2024 model year, clear trends are emerging for Pedelecs: On the one hand, light e-bikes are on the wish list, which contain motors and batteries that are a little weaker, but are stingy in terms of weight. For example, the Flyer Upstreet SL is one of them, as is the Lekker Amsterdam GTS. On the other hand, models with the Pinion motor-gearbox unit are very popular with many interested parties.

The Pinion-MGU (Motor Gearbox Unit) combines electric motor and gearshift in one housing. The drive is usually combined with a belt. In addition to electronic and comfortable gear changes, the low maintenance of the Pinion MGU is a major advantage. The big disadvantage shouldn’t go unmentioned: it’s the high price.

Models like the Kettler Pinniato, the Gazelle Eclipse or the Flyer Goroc TR: The Pegasus Estremo Evo is the cheapest among the e-bikes with Pinion MGU available in 2024.

Since the manufacturer grants a discount of 500 dollars before the official start of sales, the price falls below the 5,000 euro mark. This doesn’t make the Evo 9 Lite (9-speed) and the Evo 12 Lite (12-speed) a bargain, but it is significantly cheaper than the competition.

The Pedelec offers reasonable equipment. The suspension fork, mudguards, lighting system and a luggage rack are installed ex works. Depending on whether you choose the 9-speed or 12-speed version, the other features of the Pegasus e-bike also change.

On the cheaper 9-speed model, the brakes are slightly weaker and there is a chain instead of a belt. The top model with 12 gears, which is 500 dollars more expensive, has a four-piston brake system and Gates carbon belts.

Price and availability

The Pegasus Estremo Evo Lite will be available from March 2024, also as a low-entry model. The manufacturer grants a 500 euro discount on all models. The Estremo Evo 9 Lite is available at a price of 4,999 dollars.
