Google’s new phone lineup: The Pixel 7 Pro and the Pixel 7.
Google just unveiled its new smartphone lineup, along with a few other Pixel products.
At least when it comes to mobile phones, Google is by no means reinventing the wheel. The innovations of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are not groundbreaking. But the manufacturer knows where the strengths of its smartphones lie and is consistently developing them further.

Obsidian and snow are available as color variants for both smartphones. Lemongrass is reserved for the Pixel 7 and hazelnut for the Pixel 7 Pro.
When it comes to prices, Google is very customer-friendly. Not only do you focus on the comparatively low flagship prices compared to the competition during the event. European customers also do not have to fear any additional price increases. Dollar and Euro prices are identical.
While the standard version of the Pixel 7 appears for 649 dollars, you have to reckon with 899 dollars or more for the Pixel 7 Pro.
More power under the hood: The Google Tensor G2
The first thing Google talks about at its pixel event is the new smartphone chip. The Tensor G2 comes from our own house and should provide even more computing power. Especially when it comes to machine learning, you want to make a leap forward.
This is then used in various areas of the pixel phones. For example, when making calls, where unwanted advertising calls are simply accepted by the device itself and thus kept away from you.

Or with speech recognition, thanks to which you can now easily insert more exotic emojis from your smartphone when dictating emails.
However, machine learning is likely to be most important where the pixel devices show their great strength: with the camera.
Pixel cameras are supposed to get even better
Something has changed in the Pixel phone, both in terms of hardware and software. The camera equipment of the two cell phones reads as follows:

The Pro model’s telephoto camera in particular stands out. Because while the predecessor was able to shine with up to four times the optical zoom, Google is expanding this to 5x with the Pixel 7 Pro.
As mentioned, the manufacturer did not remain idle with the software either and uses the machine learning of the Tensor G2. A number of computational photography technologies were presented here.
For example, there is the Photo Unblur, with which you sharpen both newly taken and old photos. Real Tone to be able to display darker skin tones more realistically and Face Unblur to avoid motion blur in portraits, for example with children. 10-bit HDR should also allow you deeper blacks and brighter colors.
Upscaling should make your heavily zoomed images sharper.
With the Cinematic Mode you want to compete with Apple. Because Google’s new technology should also set several focus points in videos and make your recordings look even more cinematic. The Active Stabilization is apparently also inspired by the company from Cupertino and its Action Mode. This should also ensure a calm picture in action-packed shots, even if your hand shakes a lot when turning.
Google paid special attention to the zoom. Not only does the lead in optical zoom increase there. The new chip also comes into play here. From a magnification of 15x, for example, the zoom stabilization removes wobbles in the image. And close-up scenes are sharpened by upscaling – with up to 30x magnification.
What else is happening with the Pixel 7 (Pro)
Of course, Google didn’t just work on the chip and the camera. Other features that the manufacturer highlights in the Pixel smartphones are:
- up to 25 percent more display brightness
- more security thanks to the Titan M2 security chip
- longer battery life
- more sustainability in the materials used
- smaller bezel
- Face Unlock
- up to 120 Hz refresh rate (Pro only)
