It is important to ensure good ventilation in a PC. The owner of the model seen above not only means unusually well, but in my opinion he also didn’t make the right choice. The calculator was recently shown in Reddit PC Forum.
If you want to know straight away why I think other fans are a better choice, come on click here for the relevant article section. But which fans exactly are they?
There are 18 case fans of the type NF-A12x25 LS-PWM von Noctua. Their high unit price of around 30 dollars adds up to costs of over 550 dollars.
Unsurprisingly, the ironic question that often pops up in the comments is whether the computer can fly. It also rightly states that the photo originally came from another source.
Why does the image keep appearing on the internet? The exceptionally large number of fans apparently ensures that the PC likes to be used again on Reddit & Co. is posted. As a quick search shows, the owner first got it almost two years ago im Noctua-Forum presents.
But are so many fans even worth it?

It’s not just about the fans: samples for thermal paste in comparison – dot versus line versus X
What so many case fans bring
Compared to a significantly smaller number in practice, there is probably hardly anything. Tests on the Asus graphics card used also indicate this.
Due to the age of the first Reddit post, it must be the RTX 3070 or RTX 3080 in the Noctua edition. We know the following values.
- The PC with 18 case fans: The owner mentions an unspecified benchmark in the comments on Reddit a temperature of 63 degrees.
- Another PC with 3 case fans: Im Test at Computerbase The RTX 3080 in the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv
Since neither the exact GPU nor the test conditions for the Reddit PC are known, these values can only be a rough guide. However, I am sure for the following reason that a comparison test under identical conditions would produce very similar results.
This is what matters when it comes to PC ventilation: What is crucial is that cooler air from outside is transported into the case and the heated air inside is pushed out again – and this can easily be achieved sufficiently well with significantly fewer fans.
In my opinion, it’s not worth buying so many case fans. Also, don’t forget that more fans tend to result in louder noise, which brings us to another Reddit PC problem.
Why these fans are not the best choice in my opinion
Obviously, the PC owner’s primary concern was to install as many Noctua fans as possible. After all, not only case fans from this manufacturer are used, but also a CPU cooler with two fans and the aforementioned Asus graphics card in the Noctua edition.
But why are they models with a width of 120 millimeters? Finally, the Thermaltake Core P8 housing used offers enough space for a large number of 140 millimeter fans, as can be seen in the picture above.
Why I prefer 140 models: Larger fans must spin slower than smaller models to move a similar amount of air. This makes them usually quieter than models with a width of 120 millimeters with the same cooling performance.
But you have to give the PC one thing either way: Visually, it is a welcome change from the certain RGB monotony that you usually see in PC forums. The same applies to the desk calculator from the following article:
Player builds one of the most beautiful gaming PCs we’ve ever seen and the community is celebrating it
What kind of case do you use and how many case fans are installed in it? Like the owner of the Reddit PC, do you swear by Noctua models or do you prefer to buy other (and cheaper) fans? And what do you think of the striking but somewhat unusual color scheme of the Noctua fans? Feel free to write it in the comments and share your experiences with us!
