bloodborne
We’re attacking this selection with a big chunk as we’re talking about 2015’s game of the year here. bloodborne is the first title from the studio From Software that wants to stand out from the successful Dark Souls license. Gone are the castles and dragons in pure dark fantasy style. Say hello to a Lovecraftian universe in the gothic city of Yharnam. You play a hunter in search of the mysterious Pale Blood. You wander the narrow streets of this cursed city to unravel its terrible secret. Where Dark Souls tends toward defensive gameplay with a shield, Bloodborne encourages and rewards aggression. In fact, when you lose life you have an opportunity to regain it by hitting enemies for a short time. The famous reel has been swapped out for a much more mobile Dash. You also have a pistol that can parry if you fire at the right time, giving you a final blow. The game features stunning level design that offers total consistency and immersion. A must for all Playstation players.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut
Hideo Kojima is above all a genius game designer, capable of both the best and the craziest. death stranding is of this caliber. With this first game from his new stable, Hideo Kojima offers us a unique video game experience. Actor Norman Reedus plays Sam Porter Bridges, a transporter in a post-apocalyptic world who has experienced what is known as Death Stranding, a paranormal phenomenon that has broken the line between the dead and the living. Since that day, the souls of the deceased, called “Wasted”, have been wandering and aging all life forms with the help of a supernatural rain. The survivors logically took refuge in makeshift shelters in the heart of the Relay cities, humanity’s last bastions. Your mission is to build the UCA (United Cities of America) to forge new bonds between people, bonds lost after Death Stranding. This reunion takes place through the delivery of equipment into the heart of a world more hostile than ever. That’s why this game isn’t for everyone. The gameplay relies almost entirely on running. Patience, analysis and perseverance are the keywords here, with the sole aim of restoring a humanity that has lost what distinguishes it: its social dimension.
Demon’s Souls Remake
First born of the famous series by Hidetaka Miyazaki, demons souls was originally released exclusively for PS3 in 2010. This laid the groundwork for Dark Souls and all other From Software games that would come out after it. That’s where the backstabs, the soul loss on dying, and the stamina bar that drains with every action come from! The action takes place in the kingdom of Boletaria, where experiments with demon souls have ruined the world. Your mission as a player is to stop the released creatures to save Boletaria. His mood is completely different than his successors. Here the universe is explored over several “levels” that are becoming increasingly complex. You will discover in this universe a prison guarded by sprawling guards, an underground city or even a volcanic mine. The game was right a remake on PS5 Preserving exactly the same gameplay. Only the graphics have been revised upwards to remain as true to the original experience as possible. They will take the peepers full.
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut
After dabbling in platforming with Sly Cooper and exploring the superhero genre with InFamous, Sucker Punch takes on feudal Japan. Spirit of Tsushima puts us in the shoes of Jin Sakai, a Japanese warrior who resisted the Mongol invasion of Tsushima Island in the 13th century. The title offers a true immersion in history worthy of Assassin’s Creed. Navigating the island plain is a real pleasure, thanks in particular to an original GPS system. Here it is not a simple mini-map that will guide you, but the breeze that will allow you to better admire the graphics of the game. Bows, explosives, smoke bombs, kunais are your best allies to get rid of the invader Mongolian. A version Director’s Cut is available on PS5 and fixes some bugs of the original edition. A new area is also available: the island of Iki with its own narrative arc that expands the experience lived in the heart of this feudal Japan.
God of War
Sony conference at E3 2016. A young boy is playing quietly in front of his wooden house when his father calls him. He walks past the door of his house, his father asks him if he can hunt. He answers yes. And there… emerging from the shadows, more charismatic than ever, comes Kratos, the killer of Olympus who seems to have retired to the northern mountains. The public screams with joy at the unexpected return of this video game saga that hasn’t been heard of since 2013. Two years later, the game was released exclusively for PS4 and was named Game of the Year 2018. Kratos, with the help of her son Atreus, must lay down his late wife’s ashes. They will journey through this Norse kingdom together, building a father-son relationship they never had. But in the course of their journey, they become embroiled in a conflict involving the Norse deities. We await its continuation, God of War: Ragnarok
Horizon: Forbidden West
Released 5 years after the first opus, Horizon: Forbidden West follows from Horizon: Zero Dawn. Developed by Guerrilla Games, the title is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has returned to a primitive state and must face mechanical fauna. Originally peaceful, these machines have become increasingly aggressive over the years. We embody Aloy, a young explorer of her tribe, whose goal in the first work is to stop this cybernetic scourge. In Forbidden West she continues her quest in the lands of the Forbidden West. This second episode is richer than its predecessor with more advanced gameplay mechanics and more careful staging. The universe is as mysterious and captivating as ever, packed with stunning graphics. Get ready for ever larger and more dangerous machines, animated and designed with the utmost care. Finally, you should know that the game has excellent cross-gen work. Whether on PS5, PS4 Pro or PS4 Fat, the game runs flawlessly. An extraordinary continuation of an equally extraordinary saga.
Marvel’s Spider-Man (the saga)
Marvel’s Spider-Man is the best superhero game we’ve had since Batman Arkham Knight. Playing as the web weaver has never been so much fun as in this video game adaptation. Marvel’s Spider-Man differs from other Spider-Man stories for the simple fact that Peter doesn’t start out as a perpetual high school kid who just discovered his powers. Here, the climber has been bringing justice to the streets of New York for several years. This seniority of character allows for a refreshing vision and development to be offered. On the gameplay side, the game offers us a perfect simulation of the friendly neighborhood spider, with an impeccable movement system. Weaving the web between the skyscrapers of New York is pure pleasure. The fights are well executed and the story is fun to follow. The game worked so well that it even deserved its own focal point Miles Morales
return
For the first time exclusively for PS5, return is a roguelite-style 3D shooter developed by Housemarque. The game features the astronaut Selene who crashed on the exoplanet Atropos, a strange world with many mysteries. However, for some unknown reason, every death she faces results in a resurrection when she crashes onto Atropos. Your goal is to solve the mystery behind this time warp and escape from this star. Between neat gameplay and an inspired SF universe, Returnal turns out to be an exciting experience that will satisfy you if you are a fan of the genre.
The Last of Us (La Saga)
The last of us is a cult game from the end of the PS3 era, re-released in remastered on PS4 in 2014. Developed by Naughty Dog, the fathers of the Uncharted saga, The Last of Us confronts us with a post-apocalyptic universe where a virus of fungal origin called Cordyceps has almost completely decimated humanity. The peculiarity of this mushroom is that it takes control of its host by making it extremely aggressive. The story takes place in 2033, 20 years after the epidemic began. You play as Joel, a fifty-year-old who has lost his daughter and must escort Ellie, a teenager who has been immunized against Cordyceps. The girl turns out to be humanity’s last hope to develop a vaccine with the help of her antibodies. What makes the title strong is its writing style and nuanced characters. Throughout their adventure, the two protagonists will forge bonds and give Joel a second chance at becoming a father. One thing is for sure, you will certainly not come out of this trip unscathed. A sequel was released on PS4 in 2020, The Last of Us Part II. While the theme of the first was love, this second work emphasizes hate, revealing more and more the cruelty of this universe.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is the conclusion of Nathan Drake’s adventures developed by Naughty Dog. A few years after retiring from treasure hunting, Drake is forced back into service when his brother Sam reappears. In the footsteps of Henry Avery, a great pirate of the late 17th century, the two brothers search for his lost treasure. Powered by impeccable engineering, simple yet effective gameplay, and a narrative mastered from start to finish, the title Naughty Dog takes the small dishes to the big ones. The game was also followed by a standalone, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. A conclusion in the picture of this video game saga, terrific!
