Shortly after Sony let the cat out of the bag with the PS5 Pro, there is already a “new” Playstation. To mark the anniversary, Sony is releasing a 30th Anniversary Collection.
That almost sounds like a major attack on the Playstation fans’ piggy banks. After the (expensive) PS5 Pro, there is now an anniversary collection in the color design of the original Playstation (i.e. gray) on the program, both for the new PS5 Pro and the “old” original PS5.
Firstly, there is the 30th Anniversary PS5 Digital Edition with the correspondingly signed console and matching DualSense controller. Also included in the package is a cover for the external disc drive, a stand for vertical placement, a poster with one of thirty different motifs, cable ties, Playstation stickers and paper clips as well as a cable connector housing in the original Playstation look.
The 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro Edition includes the PS5 Pro in retro design with all its new features such as 2TB SSD and Wi-Fi 7 as well as DualSense controller, DualSense Edge controller, charging station and drive cover as well as other small items. Some devices are also available individually, such as PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge Wireless Controller and DualSense Controller.
The 30th Anniversary Collection will be released on November 21st. Please note that the PS5 Pro Edition is limited to 12,300 units. Pre-orders are possible directly from Playstation from September 26th.
SIE Platform Business Group CEO Hideaki Nishino also has a statement on the Playstation blog: “We believe the beginning of our journey is an important part of our history at Sony Interactive Entertainment. That’s why we’re honoring this moment by incorporating the original PlayStation design into the latest products for PS5 to celebrate the last 30 years.”
Sony has not yet commented on the prices of the individual products and bundles. It is therefore unclear whether the usual retail prices will apply or whether Sony will make fans pay extra for the retro design. In any case, the Pro Edition bundle will probably break the bank for almost anyone, given the extensive content.
The PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection celebrates 30 years of gaming and incorporates the original PlayStation color design into the latest range of PS5 hardware products.
