PlayStation 5: More sales than Xbox, but less than …

PlayStation, sales, Xbox

According to the results of a market research by Ampere Analysis, the PlayStation 5 is clearly ahead of the Xbox Series X / S. But the winner of the first quarter is a completely different platform.

Ampere Analysis looked at its first quarter sales from January to March 2021 and concluded that the PS5 sold about twice as much as the Xbox Series X / S. With the figures, however, you have to take into account that there are significant delivery problems with both consoles, which of course falsify the results a bit.

Accordingly, 2.83 million PlayStation 5 were sold in the first quarter, while the Xbox Series X / S only brought it to 1.31 million units. So, for the time being, nothing seems to change in the leading market share of Sony consoles.

Both Sony and Microsoft have to admit defeat to another competitor. In terms of consoles sold, Nintendo Switch is more than clearly ahead. In the same period, a whopping 5.86 million copies of the Switch went over the counter – more than the two other combined. However, on the one hand the Switch is of course much cheaper, on the other hand Nintendo now has significantly fewer delivery problems to contend with.
