Microsoft is enjoying enormous success with the Xbox Game Pass game subscription. So it’s no wonder that Sony now seems to be seriously trying to bring a direct competitor to the start.
According to a new report by the renowned business magazine Bloomberg Sony now has a comparable counterpart to the Xbox Game Pass in its drawer for its PlayStation platforms. A corresponding direct competitor to Microsoft’s game subscription could therefore start soon.
Internally, this project is codenamed Spartacus. The new subscription service should essentially combine the two already known services PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now and provide further advantages.
As is known, PS Plus gives you access to the multiplayer functions of the PS4 and PS5 games as well as free monthly games. PS Now, on the other hand, is Sony’s cloud gaming solution and enables access to numerous PS2, PS3 and PS4 classics on PS4, PS5 and PC for a monthly fee.
The newly worked out subscription model should be loud Bloomberg Keep the PlayStation Plus branding, but in the future there will probably be three different levels with different scope. While one level will be comparable to the current PS Plus offer, a second level will also offer various PS4 and PS5 titles. The third and final level would then ultimately also offer “extended game demos, game streaming and a library of classic PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games,” according to the magazine.
It remains to be seen whether the planned service will actually come in the form currently communicated by the magazine. Since Sony has not yet made an official announcement, the final details may possibly be finalized elsewhere.
