So that’s it – streaming star Pokimane is fed up with Twitch and left the platform. Afterwards she has now commented on the reasons and is dishing it out vigorously.
No more Twitch for Pokimane. This week, Imane “Pokimane” Anys announced that she would be leaving the streaming platform Twitch and moving on to new horiz ons. Her previous exclusive deal with Twitch has expired and she does not want to extend it. “The end of an era,” she wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Twitch has been my home for a decade… but it’s time to say thank you for all the memories and love during my League, Fortnite and Among Us time.”
In her podcast, she has now commented on the reasons why she did not extend her deal and Twitch and especially the audience there are not doing particularly well.
Here’s what it says: “During the pandemic, there were so many people watching, streaming and interested in games,” she said. “There were so many girls there, and there was a lot of diversity in the demographic. I felt so much more seen and heard. And I thought, ‘Wow, this is what I always wanted for streaming.’ “
That’s far from the case anymore: Twitch has “regressed a lot” – especially with “the rise of so much Manosphere and Red Pill bullshit – I feel like this stuff is in the male-dominated livestreaming sphere thrives.” “It’s hard for me to live in an industry and a community and watch this shit happen and act like it’s no big deal, see it normalized – the kind of bigotry and spewing of Shit and just so much stuff that I frankly don’t agree with,” she said.
But Twitch also gets a few slaps in the face. She describes the platform as chaotic when it comes to regulations and guidelines as well as their constant changes. She also criticized Twitch for its lack of safety for minorities and the frequency of harassment and stalking due to its lack of IP bans.
In the future, she wants to occasionally continue streaming on Twitch, but she wants to focus more on other platforms, including TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. However, Kick does not want to serve them because of what they believe is shady financing from online crypto gambling websites.
