news culture Prime Video: films and series in August 2022
Before Amazon tackles the start of the new school year, Amazon has something planned for August with many films and series to keep you busy in front of your screen: There are great cinema classics that we of course recommend, but there are also some in-house productions that can do that be worth the detour. We’ll look at that in a moment.
Indiana Jones the saga
These monuments to the Seventh Art are inevitably hard to miss, and with good reason: Indiana Jones revolutionized the adventure film thanks to a terrific combination of George Lucas (Star Wars) as producer and Steven Spielberg as director. only that ! For the month of August, therefore, the first four films of the entire saga (a fifth feature film is in preparation) are available on the platform, namely Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Le Temple of Doom (1984), The Last Crusade (1989) and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008). So we find that good old Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones Jr., a seasoned archeology professor who doesn’t hesitate to take the lead and embark on a quest for mystical treasures…always with that touch of brilliant magic. Do it if you haven’t already.
- Available August 1st
- Director: Steven Spielberg
- With : Harrison Ford, Karen Allen, and Shia LaBeouf
Rampage: Out of control
If you like ultra-explosive and not necessarily very clever Hollywood blockbusters, you might like Rampage: Out of Control. However, this action film released in 2018 has the advantage of surprisingly adapting an arcade video game that was originally released in 1986! We then follow the adventures of Davis Okoye, played by Dwayne Johnson, a primatologist who visits one of his favorite gorillas, George, the victim of a failed experiment: the ape will then attain a disproportionate size, just like two other animals. a wolf and a crocodile. Take the Kaiju movies, stick real animals in them and have them fight in the middle of the city, and you’ve got a pretty successful nagging experience.
- Available August 1, 2022
- director : Brad Peyton
- With : Dwayne Johnson, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Naomie Harris
Didier
It’s no secret, but Alain Chabat has done a lot for French film culture. From the numerous sketches of Les Nuls to feature films such as Asterix & Obelix Mission Cleopatra, the French actor and director is a powerhouse in his field and Didier and one of his films not to be missed: released in 1997, it notably allowed him to receive the César for best first film the following year, 1998. So we find ourselves in a particularly iconic comedy in which a labrador finds himself in the body of a man, played by Alain Chabat. His new master (the late Jean-Pierre Bacri) then finds himself with his hilarious pet, which inevitably leads to a series of imitations and situations so comical and famous.

starting point
A fairly acclaimed French comedy released in 2011 is sometimes compared to Visitors, but in the opposite direction: Two half-brothers – one multiracial, integrated into the lower middle class and the other black, suburban and unemployed – find themselves in 1780 firmly the West Indies. A time that was not so forgiving towards the population, and the two brothers, who resisted everything, then found themselves trapped by the slave traders present on the spot. A film that leaves room for humor and a few cult phrases, without neglecting its moral claims. “A very funny comedy, not mind boggling but not silly”, we could read in the press. It may be worth a look.

Thirteen Lives (Amazon Original Movie)
Definitely one of the great movies to watch closely. Thirteen Lives will be released exclusively on Amazon on August 5th and will feature a five star cast of Colin Farrel, Viggo Mortensen and Joel Edgerton! In the production we also find Ron Howard, the man behind great classics like Willow, Apollo 13, From Shadow to Light, Da Vinci Code, In the heart of the ocean and on and on. For once, the film tells the true story of a Thai soccer team trapped in a cave due to a rainstorm. Highly skilled and fearless divers will then brave the situation in full view of the world to save the unfortunate

Rambo the saga
A love story with American cinema, Rambo is now a huge stereotype of the very Hollywood-ready and patriotic war film. The saga is legendary nonetheless, and if some movies are better than others, know that the entire franchise is set to hit Prime Video this month, the perfect opportunity to rebuild your culture. We can therefore find Rambo (1982), Rambo 2 The Mission (1985), Rambo 3 (1988), John Rambo (2008) and even Rambo Last Blood released in 2019. As for the scenario, it’s (obviously) played by Rambo, played by Stallone, a Vietnam War veteran who’s about to face a lot of bloody oddballs in Asia. “It wasn’t his war,” he even said.
- Available August 9th
- Directors: Ted Kotcheff, George Pan Cosmatos, Peter MacDonald, Sylvester Stallone, Adrian Grunberg
- With : Sylvester Stallone, Julie Benz
A League of Their Own, Season 1 (Amazon Original Series)
Possibly one of the good surprises of this month of August at Prime Video. First of all, note that this is an Amazon production exclusive: this series is set at the beginning of World War II when professional baseball players go to the front lines. Faced with staff shortages and to save the clubs and the discipline itself, Club owners will then band together to create a women’s baseball league that was unprecedented at the time.
- Available August 12th
- With : Abbi Jacobson, Chante Adams, and D’Arcy Carden
In troubled waters
Shark movies, there are plenty of them and In Troubled Waters and a must watch if you like the genre. So there we have Jason Statham, who will find himself with his research team at a megalodon in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. As a reminder, the megalodon is an extinct species that basically resembles a great white shark the size of a giant blue whale. A fish we really don’t want on this earth anymore in 2022, but which makes an effective and entertaining big spectacle action film without having the impact of Jaws of its time. Get the popcorn ready and turn up the volume, that’s enough.
- Available August 22nd
- Director: Jon Turtletaub
- With : Jason Statham, Bingbing Li, Rainn Wilson
The Samaritan (Amazon Original Movie)
The Samaritan is one of the big Amazon produced movies to be released on Prime Video this month. And as the main guest, we find nothing more and nothing less than the legend Sylvester Stallone in the skin of a super vigilante (named The Samaritan) who is believed to have disappeared against his rival Nemesis 25 years ago. Today, the hero hides in society in his true light, that of Mr. Smith, a safe man who, however, is exposed by his 13-year-old neighbor. The man will then attempt his return to duty as the city descends into chaos and crime: just to see Stallone in a superhero movie, we’ll be watching.
