sony has officially announced its PlayStation Plus May 2022 Lineup – This is a good lineup. As ever, the actual lineup leaked a while back, but now that we’ve got official confirmation from Sony what to expect, we’ve been thinking about it and coming to a conclusion – it’s really been a good month for subscription services.
To recap, the games you can download from May 3rd are: FIFA 22 (PS4, PS5), Midgard Tribe (PS4, PS5) and Death’s curse (PS4). You have until May 2 to download April’s PS Plus games – check them out at the link.
Perhaps that’s because Sony is trying to create as much positivity as possible before reintroducing the PlayStation Plus, and it’s the more expensive (and somewhat controversial) premium option. What better way to prove to players and payers that the service is still worth your hard-earned money than to let the traditional service tier shine?
So, let’s see how good these games are.
FIFA 22: Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know this game — FIFA 22 is a game with plenty of solid improvements over past iterations of the franchise, but it’s been viewed by many as being overwhelmed by aggressive The game has a deep knockout and insidious monetization scheme.
The game currently has a user rating of 2.6 on Metacritic (78 from critics), with plenty of criticism for the game’s unethical monetization strategy. The pace is slower than in previous games and there is more focus on 1v1 encounter ball skills and things like that.
Let’s be honest, though; the game hits PS Plus in May. That’s a big deal for a FIFA title — especially one right now. Clearly, this is EA’s attempt to get the title into the hands of more players, thereby harvesting more money from them in the form of a premium currency for FIFA Coins. But if you want to play it, you want to play it — and probably little will change your mind. Konami’s eFootball (or even the mysterious UFL) doesn’t have any chance of taking FIFA off the football throne in the near future.
Midgard Tribe: This is a title for an experience that blends survival and ARPG genres into Norse mythology. Playable solo or co-op, as Einherjar, resurrected by Odin, you and your clan (up to 10 players) are tasked with defending the seed of Yggdrasil from the evil forces that are bringing Ragnarok.
It’s a Diablo-inspired RPG where you need to collect resources, materials, and treasure to craft new weapons and armor. All in all, the pace of progression is very fast, and you can get hooked on a lot of interlocking systems as the game unfolds. Endgame? Challenge the giants and beasts of Norse legends and emerge victorious.
The PS5 game scored a respectable 71 on Metacritic, with most critics praising the game’s cooperative action, launch product, and graphic style. Sure, it can be repetitive – but that’s largely what appeals to this type of game in some ways, right? Come for the difficulty curve, stay for the final game.
Death’s curse: If you’re a fan of skill-based single-player roguelikes, look no further. In this PS4 game – rated 79 on Metacritic – you’ll explore a cursed temple, a seemingly endless labyrinth filled with abyss, traps and monsters. Here, even death is not an escape, because every time you die, you stand up and fight again. Well, par for that type of course.
While many reviews say the game has fallen off against genre-stable sidekicks like The Binding of Isaac, Hades, and even Into the Dungeon – it’s still a fun, satisfying romp in its own right. Visually compelling and engaging (once you’re really into it), this tricky, action-packed game has certainly caught my eye thanks to the inclusion of PS Plus. Let’s see if I can stop playing Slay the Spire, though.
That’s May’s PS Plus lineup. What do you think? Is there anything here that you would definitely play (or avoid)? Let us know in the comments below.
