PS5 Pro or PlayStation 5 Slim? A Sony employee just openly teased a new console for next year. We get to the bottom of the rumours.
With the lack of PlayStation 5 soon to be a distant past, Sony is starting to tease the future. Rumors surrounding the PS5 Pro continue to persist, but a more surprising model is also on the horizon. One way or the other, one of the consoles will obviously be coming out next year and it’s PlayStation teasing it.
A PS5 Pro or Slim in 2023?
2023 should really mark the arrival of a new PS5. Hideaki Nishino, vice president of the Platform Experience branch, went there with his little teaser during an interview Famitsu. The Japanese magazine asked him about the possible arrival of a PS5 Pro and drew the comparison with the older generation. The PS4 Pro was actually released three years after the launch of the base model, an anniversary that the PlayStation 5 will celebrate next November. The context is obviously not the same, but the rumors of a PS5 Pro or a Slim take on more weight given his answer:
By the end of fiscal 2022, cumulative PS5 sales will surpass 37 million units. We believe that this will also be a very important moment for the platform. I can’t specifically talk about it (Editor’s note: PS5 Pro or new model) for now, but I hope you’re already looking forward to next year.
For now, the PS5 Pro hypothesis seems to be ruled out. A new and more amazing model is actually said to be in production very soon and therefore ready by the end of fiscal year 2023 which ends in September 2023. We’re talking about the PS5 with an external drive that would be connected via a USB-C port on the back of the console. The first feedback from the dev kit for this “PS5 Slim” is obviously conclusive. The console “works like a charm,” according to Tom Henderson’s sources, who say it should be announced very soon. CES 2023 seems appropriate as Sony will be holding a conference there on January 4, 2023 at 2am French time. Wait as they say.
