what do we know final fantasy 16? Well, so far, we’ve heard that Naoki Yoshida and the rest of the team are promising a “comprehensive game full of story and gameplay.” We know it’s PlayStation 5 as a console exclusive (at least in the short term) when it was announced in September 2020.
We know the game is set in the land of Valistea, where six factions are almost at a point of conflict due to a spreading disease called Blight, with the crystal at the center of the problem.
Now, thanks to The Game Awards 2022, we know this title is coming June 22, 2022.
At The Game Awards 2022, Square Enix and Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida showed off a new trailer for the game, titled “Revenge.” As you might expect, it’s packed with action, giant summons, chocobos, and all the FF tropes you’d expect.
Check out the latest trailer below.
“The fires of vengeance burn, and the hunger of ambition calls. Awaken the Eikons, but will you dominate them or will they dominate you?” read the trailer’s synopsis.
The game is nearing completion, so it makes sense for this type of announcement to be made at The Game Awards.
Final Fantasy XVI continues to use action combat–as we saw with Final Fantasy XV, the last mainline entry in the Final Fantasy series–to appeal to a younger crowd. The title also draws inspiration from recent “AAAA Open World RPGs”. So here’s an idea of what you can expect when the game launches.
Perhaps this new trailer will represent the beginning of new information releases from Square Enix. Square Enix has so far been quiet about its latest RPG juggernaut because it doesn’t want to set false expectations.
