Modern smartwatches and fitness trackers have long been more than pedometers. The pulse measurement in particular is very popular. But what if the sensor goes on strike? Below we will show you how to find typical sources of error and reliably bring the heart rate measurement back to running.
Pulse measurement doesn't work? You can do that
As with the vast majority of technology problems, it is worth taking the simplest and most common solution methods one after the other. You can try the following options if the heart rate measurement at your smartwatch or the fitness tracker does not work:
- Start your watch or your fitness tracker again. This step alone can fix many problems. With Galaxy watches, restarting is not possible directly. Here you have to switch off the clock first and then turn it on again. At the Apple Watch there is also the option of forced restart. Keep the Digital Crown and the side button pressed for at least 10 seconds at the same time. The clock will force a restart.
- Clean the back of the watch, where the heart rate sensor is located. The sensor may be dirty so that the measurement does not work correctly. Excessive sweat on the skin can also have this effect. Also ensure that the watch is correctly sitting on the arm with a distance of about a finger width to the wrist. The watch should be tight, but not too tight, so that a finger fits between the clock and the arm.
- Make sure that the heart rate measurement is activated in the associated app. At Samsung watches this is the Samsung Health app, with the Apple Watch you can also activate the measurement directly on the clock in the settings. Alternatively, try to switch off and switch on the option.
With these solution steps, your problem should already be fixed. Now try to carry out a heart rate measurement or start a training session to check whether the pulse is measured as intended.
If nothing helps: reset or reset the fitness tracker
If none of the upper solution steps should have brought anything, the problem is probably deeper. In this case, you should reset the smartwatch or the fitness tracker and pair with your smartphone again. You can find out how you do this on the manufacturer's website or in the operating instructions.
If this step has not brought anything, you can assume that the watch is broken. In this case, it is advisable to return the smartwatch or the fitness tracker to the manufacturer or to send it as part of the guarantee for repair. For this, turn to the manufacturer or the seller.
