Quake 2: Announcing a remastered here?

We’re not exaggerating when we think of the Quake series as legendary. After all, she created many of the blueprints for modern first-person shooters, but has sadly been dormant for a number of years. But fans may have something to look forward to in the near future, because Quake 2 may return as a remastered version.

At the end of 1997, id Software released Quake 2, a true milestone in first-person shooter history. The Ballerbude made some new things, especially for single-player representatives of their guild. The story told was more than just a means to an end and the opponents didn’t act like better targets, they were actually clever. A few more sequels followed, but the series hasn’t really been able to gain a foothold to this day.

If you’re thirsting for some nice classic shooter entertainment, then we might have good news for you. Because Quake 2 could return in remastered form, according to an entry by the Game Rating and Administration Committee in South Korea. Only one rating for Quake 2 Remastered appeared there.

This “source” is trustworthy because in 2021 it was announced in the same way that a new edition of the first part was in the works. This was released for Quake’s 25th anniversary and brought with it, among other things, 4K resolution, widescreen support, fancier character models, dynamic lighting, anti-aliasing and much more.

The same upgrades are conceivable for Quake 2. The question, however, is how the developers want to market the remastered. After all, an improved version of the shooter was released in 2019, which introduced ray tracing support – and it was free! The re-release would fit the 25th birthday of Quake 2, which is at the end of this year. But id definitely has to work hard to attract buyers.
