Game news Recent survival horrors after Resident Evil Village
You will be ready in a dozen or even fifteen hours if you want to take the time to read the latest addition to Capcom’s “Zombie” saga and want to continue your terrifying journey. The editors of igamesnews.com offer you a selection of the latest survival horror titles to do after Resident Evil Village. These titles were published over the past decade (2010-2021).
Alan Wake
There’s no point in presenting Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish studio behind Max Payne and Control, but also Alan Wake, a game that creates an atmosphere that writer HP Lovecraft himself could hardly deny. This survival horror marked the ghosts of its time with its exemplary narrative and the integration of light and management at the heart of a video game experience that is unforgettable in several ways. Alan Wake is a timeless work that, despite his eleven-year career in 2021, has of course not aged a bit except for the technical aspect. Many fans are impatient while waiting for a sequel to be released. Alan Wake 2 is long overdue. Fortunately, Control’s final DLC, “AWE,” a nod to the 2010 game, recently rekindled the flame of passion.

Alien: isolation
Alien: Isolation is still the best video game adaptation in the universe, which Ridley Scott (director), Dan O’Bannon and Walter Hill (screenwriter) and Hans Ruedi Giger (design) jointly presented in 1979. The Survival Horror by SEGA and The Creative Assembly, English studios generally used to strategy games based on the Total War saga, take a close look at the story of Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley, an emblematic figure in the saga. The story takes place 15 years after the events of the film Alien, the eighth passenger. The young girl is looking for answers regarding the disappearance of her mother, who leads her to Sevastopol Station, a station that, strangely enough, only appeared. Indeed, a hostile alien entity lurks in these locations … the game’s xenomorphic, tenacious, and tenacious nemesis. Alien: Isolation came in an excellent surprise when it was released in October 2014 and remains a staple of the genre to this day.

Amnesia: rebirth
Amnesia. In his name alone, the most die-hard players shudder. The saga presented by the Frictional Games studios has made a name for itself in the horror market. Amnesia: Rebirth, released in October 2020, is the third installment in the series and inherits the properties of its predecessors, namely Amnesia: The Dark Descent (2010) and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs (2013). The rebirth begins almost a century after the events of the first game and follows the misfortunes of Anastasie “Tasi” Trianon. This journey constantly shakes players with its heavy atmosphere and mastery of the codes of the genre. Amnesia: Rebirth cannot leave you indifferent and leaves a taste in your mouth that belongs only to you … between sadness and admiration, melancholy and amazement.

Blair Witch
The Blair Witch project was a seldom seen box office hit in 1999 and created a genre that continues to be the heyday of cinema today … Found Footage. With the exception of Blair Witch Volumes 1 through 3, no video game adaptation had seen the light of day, strange as it may seem in the face of such a phenomenon. We’ll have to wait two decades or 2019 to see this universe transition from film to pixel with conviction. It is the Bloober team – studio best known for Observer System Redux, Layers of Fear, and The Medium – working with Lionsgate Games that is responsible for the project to get a result that isn’t flawless, but that it manages to put the controller in hand into the atmosphere such a special film. Despite an agreed-upon plot and some heavy storytelling, this Blair Witch adventure in the heart of the eerie Black Hills forest is well worth the detour.

Dead in daylight
Another survival horror memorial, this time in multiplayer mode, stands before you. Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical survival horror. The concept is simple but very effective. Four third person “victim” players attempt to evade a fifth first-person view player with the sole aim of eliminating them. Behavior Interactive, mostly known for a whole bunch of video game adaptations of successful licenses and different ports, came out of the woods with Dead by Daylight in 2016 and enriched its game with different video game universes or not for five long years … The title is in itself a museum reference to the horror cinema of the 80s and guarantees a “good” time with friends in a macabre version of the cat and mouse game for toddlers.

Layers of fear
It’s hard to escape the aforementioned Bloober team with Blair Witch when we venture into the lands of video game horror. Even if the studio characterizes his works as psychological thrillers rather than survival horror in the truest sense of the word, the latter remains an essential “artist” in this field. Layers of Fear (2015) and its sequel Layers of Fear 2 (2019) have left a lasting mark on the thrill of the thrill. The saga should not be left in everyone’s hands and is meant to be traumatic in more ways than one. This playable first-person title invites players to delve into the twists and turns of the deranged psyche of a mad painter trying to end his centerpiece, with no safety net.

to survive
Outlast could be to video games what The Blair Witch Project was to cinema fourteen years ago, nothing more, nothing less. Released in 2014, this survival horror that the Red Barrels studios envisioned, redefines the codes of the genre in its own way, forcing as haunting a first-person view as possible and taking a worn but still worn out point of view in an uncomfortable setting … ‘Insane asylum. Outlast and its whistleblower DLC are all pleasant descents into hell, from which no one can get out unscathed. The adventure is running out of steam, with a striking subjective staging and a skillfully distilled sense of urgency. Unfortunately, its sequel with the sober title Outlast 2 is in a certain oversupply, which makes the experience remarkable due to a lack of finesse.
Phasmophobia
You have always dreamed of becoming a ghost hunter, and to follow in the footsteps of the Ghostbusters, less fun and humorous, Phasmophobia should meet your expectations. This original vision of the horror game developed and published by Kinetic Games is supposed to be imaginative and in its own way dust off the genre by changing the framework and creating a collaborative dimension that is the lifeblood of the title. The voice has a very special meaning in these esoteric hunts, where fear and exchange with the other players merge to animate an unexpected and supernatural multiplayer experience that allows it to break the beaten path of video game horror leave.
SOMA
Between two amnesia projects (reference to the Amnesia series), Frictional Games offers a dip into deep water for a claustrophobic adventure. SOMA is an invitation to reflect on transhumanism, a strenuous underwater journey in a research laboratory beneath the surface. The title maliciously avoids clichés of horror, starting with jumpscares and other artificial sound enhancements in order to concentrate on the expected atmosphere and game mechanics, which however again prove their effectiveness. SOMA isn’t perfect, but it turns out to be unforgettable in many ways. Between two institutions and a dark forest there is an ocean, an environment that has not been explored enough, a breath of fresh air, as paradoxical as it may seem.
The evil in
One of the Japanese survival horror masters is at the forefront of this title developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks. The Evil Within is the work of Shinji Mikami, creator of the Resident Evil franchise that brings us together in these places today, and his teams. This third-party horror game takes the mechanics that have made the genre successful since its inception, between puzzles, resource management and nemesis, immersing us in a nightmarish universe populated by monstrous creatures. The Evil Within’s psychiatric asylum, theater of the wanderings of hero Sebastian Castellanos, has some beautiful and unsettling surprises in store for players. The Evil Within 2 saw the light of day in 2017, a sequel to which Shinji Mikami claims to have stepped back. He then becomes a producer to “simply” monitor the project.
