Are you listening to an unknown song and want to find out what it is using Spotify? A few words from the lyrics are enough. This is how you have to proceed.
The popular streaming service Spotify has a relatively unknown automatic song recognition feature. Unlike services like Shazam, you don't have to record the song with the microphone or sing it yourself.
Spotify recognizes the songs based on the song text or lyrics instead of using sound-based methods. The feature is therefore only suitable for songs with at least a few words of sung or spoken text. The lyrics are taken from online databases such as Genius used.
If you know a handful of words from the corresponding song, the method works very precisely.
We recommend Spotify song recognition as a supplement to other methods. Especially if you only vaguely remember a song and a line of lyrics that stands out, the Spotify method is worth its weight in gold. The following steps show you how to use Spotify’s song recognition.
You can find further options for automatically recognizing songs in our overview of “song recognition”.
Does song recognition also work with other music services?
Are you using another music streaming service instead of Spotify and are you wondering whether the function is also available for your provider? We tried it. This is how the explained method also works for Apple Music, Deezer and YouTube Music. If you don't see the song suggestions while you're typing, you'll also have to click on “Search”. Amazon Music, Tidal and Qobuz, however, did not show us any songs.
