A new PC can bring good luck and blessings – especially one that is self-assembled. But if you build your computer yourself, you may end up disappointed. It can happen that the plugged-in PC doesn’t work as it should.
This is what happened to Reddit user MiddleOwl, who reported on his new gaming PC in a post. It boots up, but only delivers games at 6 FPS.
Defective hardware? No, the mistake was actually his. All he had to do was change a cable.
2000 Euro PC with 6 FPS – how does that work?
MiddleOwl describes its approach in Reddit post Step by step and doesn’t notice that he almost provides himself with the solution.
After he assembled his computer, there were no problems booting up. Only the game he started only ran at 6 FPS.
This shouldn’t be the case with a PC with an AMD 78003XD (CPU) and an AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT (GPU), even with the latest games.

He then narrowly misses the solution to his own problem: Using the AMD software, he recognizes that he has two graphics cards in the computer. An “AMD Radeon (TM)” and an “AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT” are displayed there.
MiddleOwl also notes that currently only the AMD Radeon (TM) is used, i.e. the integrated graphics unit. Processors that can also function as graphics cards are called APUs instead of CPUs. They are usually significantly weaker than dedicated graphics cards. They are also less suitable for playing modern computer games.
How does he proceed? Our protagonist has decided to deactivate the APU graphics unit in the BIOS. Unfortunately, he was then locked out of his PC because he was no longer able to see any graphics at all.
But the Reddit community reacted understandingly and helpfully.
How could he have solved the problem? The solution is simple: All he had to do was plug his HDMI cable from the motherboard into the graphics card. Then the system would have used the correct graphics card.
How could he miss that? It often happens that users connect their monitor to the wrong graphics unit. It’s one of the simplest mistakes that can happen quickly if you don’t look closely or are already thinking about playing.
In this case, he overlooked the graphics card connections because the dust protection plugs were still plugged in. These are always plugged into the connectors of a graphics card when it is delivered.
Since his motherboard has an HDMI and a DisplayPort port, he assumed that he would have to connect his screen there.
After the community pointed out his mistake, he thanked him for their help and assured him that the same mistake won’t happen again.
Mistakes in PC building are nothing new to you? Fair – but did you know that there are ants that attack PC parts?
