Redfall was one of the first big hopes in the Xbox year 2023 – and failed. Developer Arkane, meanwhile, is apparently looking to the future again, because the next new project is already in the works.
Arkane Studios and Bethesda’s vampire shooter Redfall had been hyped as one of the first major Xbox exclusives of 2023, but it more or less failed across the board. The launch was a fiasco with many disappointments, making the title one of the lowest-rated AAA titles on Steam overall.
Now other big titles were disappointing at the start, but the responsible development studios didn’t lose faith in their game and continuously worked on improvements in order to still meet the original expectations of the players. No Man’s Sky is such an example, which went from being a flop to a long-time favorite that has long been convincing. Those who had similar hopes in relation to Redfall may now get a little setback: Arkane Studios are already turning their attention to their next game.
After even Xbox boss Phil Spencer expressed his disappointment with the state of Redfall at the release and apologized for not having met the expectations of the fans, it doesn’t seem to be Arkane Studios’ top priority to noticeably improve here . Although not all employees will be withdrawn from Redfall, others are likely to devote themselves to the new AAA project, which has now been confirmed.
The fact that such a thing is already in the works is now suggested by the studio’s new job advertisements – and the community is therefore already speculating that they will probably no longer put too much heart and soul into Redfall. In any case, the fact that the team’s new AAA project is already actively in progress is suggested by the wording that a suitable employee for the advertised job should start “as soon as possible”. It’s not yet clear what this new game will be about, though some fans are hoping that a Deathloop sequel might be on the agenda.

Redfall has had a few stumbling blocks, starting with the misconception that it’s “Left 4 Dead with vampires.” Numerous shifts were also not positive, as was the announcement that the 60fps mode on the Xbox Series X would only be delivered via patch after the release. Now the game is finally here and despite all the problems beforehand, we were curious to see whether Arkane Austin can tie in with old strokes of genius like Dishonored or Prey. Spoilers: No!
