To celebrate Alan Wake’s 12th anniversary, Remedy has released a development update for Alan Wake 2 and announced a remaster of Alan Wake for the Nintendo Switch.
The studio also released a video featuring today’s news and discussing the past and future of the series. It features Sam Lake, Ilkka Villi and Matthew Porretta.
Alan Wake 2 was unveiled at The Game Awards in December, when the company promised to reveal the long-awaited follow-up this summer. Unfortunately, plans have changed, but Remedy did feel it was appropriate to provide an update on how things were going, and it also released some concept art.
“Development on Alan Wake 2 is going very well,” says Lake. “We’re very deep, there’s a lot of material, and a lot of the games are playable.” But over the past few months, we’ve been discussing, Together with our fantastic publisher Epic Games at Remedy, the decision was made that we won’t be showing any major content this summer.
“It takes a lot of effort to make a proper, polished demo or trailer, and it can take months of work to complete development. We felt like we were motivated and we wanted to make sure we were creating the best and first for Remedy Survival horror game. We don’t want to take the team away from this focus, so we’ll keep working hard to create a great gameplay experience, unfortunately you’ll have to wait longer for demos and trailers.”
Alan Wake 2 is scheduled for release in 2023, published by Epic Games.
As for when Alan Wake Remastered is coming to the Nintendo Switch, well, no exact release date was provided today, only a fall release window. The game will only be released as a digital version and will run natively on the hardware.
Alan Wake Remastered was released last year on Xbox, PlayStation and PC.
