You may have forgotten about Skulls and Bones, but it’s back and with it comes an upcoming free week to remind you of its existence.
Oh dear. Skull & Bones was never going to get good reviews, considering how many times it was delayed before its release. When it finally came out in… February (yeah, that really has come and gone, hehe), it ended up getting so-so reviews, and sold less than a quarter of what Sea of Thieves did at launch in terms of physical sales, which doesn’t sound great even in the digital age. But maybe all is not over yet, because there’s always the possibility that Ubisoft can really push Skull & Bones as high as it can go, just like they did with No Man’s Sky (although I do doubt that). But even with such negative reviews, it’s still possible that you can try this game out for yourself, and you’re in luck, because starting next week, you can play it for free for a whole week!

According to details on Ubisoft’s website, Skull & Bones will be free for a week from May 30th to June 6th, during which you can “battle through treacherous waters and become the most infamous pirate captain!” It goes on to explain: “During this free week, you are free to play everything, whether you’re advancing the main story or taking on challenging content with friends.” In addition to this, if you decide to buy the game after the trial period is over, “every achievement, every piece of treasure, and every ship upgrade unlocked during the free week will be waiting for you.”

Ubisoft does note that Skull & Bones is 50% off on all platforms for a limited time to entice you to pick it up, but as far as I can tell the only places where the discount is being offered at the time of writing are the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft’s own store for the premium version of the game for any platform, but heading to the official Xbox and PlayStation stores doesn’t show any discounts, so it might be worth keeping an eye on things there.
The timing of this free week is pretty good too, as Skull & Bones Season 2 is set to drop next week on May 28, so if you’re quick you can even check out some of that content.
