The Day Before should be allowed to live on – at least if modders Luci0 and fskartd have their way. As the two announce via social media, there is one unofficial offline version in the works that will preserve the scandalous title in a playable version.

Because after the devastating Steam reviews, allegations of fraud, an unprecedented refund offensive and the subsequent studio closure, The Day Before will go offline in January 2024.
With the server down, the survival game would then be generally no longer playable – even for users who have it in their library.
The two modders are now looking for a solution for exactly this and want to bypass The Day Before’s server connection so that you can log in offline. »We can’t promise anything or give a date, it’s too early for that. But we’re doing our best,” writes Luci0 at X (formerly Twitter).
Hope for survival turns into tragedy
Most recently, The Day Before made headlines because after sales were stopped, black market keys were suddenly sold off at record prices – the sad end to a bizarre story.
The survival game was long considered a beacon of hope for many fans and was even the most wanted Steam game worldwide for many months. But at launch it became clear: The Day Before was broken, a patchwork of cheaply bought Unreal assets and not even the promised MMO.
We spoke to the lawyer and gaming expert Kai Bodensiek about what is really behind the whole project and whether laws may have even been broken:

The Day Before: Between fraud and incompetence
Historical relevance
It is still unclear whether the unofficial offline version will really work and how it will be offered at all. So far, the team has been able to successfully bypass Steam copy protection and make all game files accessible, according to the team’s current status.
One thing is certain: If the modders are successful with their project, they would be one of the biggest exciting releases in recent years permanently preserved for posterity and perhaps even open the door for deeper investigations into the scandal game.
