Capcom had already pledged to add the popular Mercenaries mode to Resident Evil 4 Remake, but it wasn’t clear when that would happen. This has changed now!
Capcom has announced a free DLC for the remake of Resident Evil 4, which has already had a great start, at least on Steam. The focus of this additional content is the popular Mercenaries mode, which now also has a release date.
The 2005 PS2 port of the original game also featured the Mercenaries mode; the version for the Sony console was published around nine months after the actual GameCube release. In the new game mode, many locations were carried over from the main campaign, where players had to eliminate opponents for points while a clock ticked mercilessly down.
This arcade-heavy approach attracted many players and proved a hit – and now the Mercenaries mode is coming to the remake, just as Capcom previously promised. Together with the launch trailer for yesterday’s release day, the specific release date for this was confirmed: April 7, 2023 will be the day when the free Mercenaries DLC will be released. You can jump into this mode just two weeks after the release.
It remains to be seen whether the remake will also receive other former content such as the “Separate Ways” campaign around Ada Wong. To date, it has not been officially confirmed whether this add-on is part of the remake’s roadmap or not.
