Resident Evil 4 Remake is obviously going to be very gory, but it could also scare players in other ways…
Resident Evil 4 Remake, Capcom’s next big thing, was reviewed by the ESRB (the equivalent of our PEGI), and the body picked up something that’s likely to leave players stuck in their throats.
intestines and hemoglobin
First, and one might suspect, the ESRB is hinting that the game will be particularly bloody. It mentions that enemies can be decapitated and dismembered with gunfire, and that blood will line the walls. Nothing surprising when you see what Capcom has served us with Resident Evil 2 Remake, for example, which was even censored in Japan because of it. It’s a horror game, after all, and anyone who ever made the original Resident Evil 4 knows that the game doesn’t skimp on the explosions and body transformations of our mutant opponents. Now it remains to be seen if this remake will be as strong as The Callisto Protocol, which now seems to be heavily reliant on hemoglobin.
Players use pistols, machine guns, shotguns, and explosives to kill enemy creatures in frenetic combat. Some weapons/attacks result in decapitation and/or dismemberment of enemies, as well as large splatters of blood. Enemy attacks (chainsaws, tentacles, etc.) can also cause Leon to be decapitated, exploded, or impaled. Gutted animals and mutilated corpses are depicted in some environments.
Microtransactions in Resident Evil 4 Remake
What shouldn’t happen on the player side, however, is confirmation that there will be microtransactions in the game. Indeed, the ESRB notes the presence of content that can be purchased “in-app”, which will put mustard in the nose of those most reluctant to this type of practice.
How are microtransactions implemented? What are they doing? We ignore that. It could just as easily be a handful of cosmetic packs, survival items, or anything else potentially related to Mercenary mode. Although it’s unclear if the latter will be back with the remake.
So it’s not entirely clear just yet, but we should learn more in the coming months. Resident Evil 4 Remake still has time to get people talking as it’s not expected until March 24th, 2023 on PS5, Xbox Series, PC and PS4.
