Moving beyond Resident Evil, Capcom has a new remastered precious pony in town, and its name is Onimusha.
Yes, you read that right. Onimusha is back and looking better than ever in Capcom's frankly obscene REengine. The publisher has rebooted the series – which, by the way, has been dormant since 2018, both on console and PC terms – with a dark fantasy triple-A action game. It does look like it's aiming for the Elden Rings, Dark Souls, and Niohs of the world, doesn't it?
At The Game Awards 2024, Capcom shocked audiences by showing off a new Onimusha game without any trailers or promotion. In the trailer, we see some intense third-person action and hear some rather strange English voice acting. This game is called Onimusha: Kendoarriving in 2026.
Check out the debut below.
It’s been a long time since we’ve had news about the Onimusha series. The last time we saw an entry in Capcom's venerable franchise was Onimusha: Warlords, a high-value remake of a decent game powered by the nostalgia hype of Resident Evil 2 Remake. A remaster of the first game in the series, if you want to experience what this new game has to offer, you can play it now on current consoles and PC.
As of the time of writing this article, the “Onimusha” series has sold a total of 8.7 million copies worldwide, becoming Capcom's tenth best-selling series (after “Monster Hunter”, “Dead Rising”, “Dragon's Dogma”, and “Street Fighter” , “Mega Man”, “Resi”, “DMC” and “Ace”) Lawyer). I wonder how much this new game will push this oft-forgotten series up the charts.
We’ll find out in 2026.
