One can hardly complain about too few upcoming Star Wars games: Not only will Jedi Survivor appear in April of this year, Respawn is also working on a strategy game and a shooter. There is now new information about the latter that could particularly inspire long-established Star Wars fans.
The development studio is currently looking diligently for reinforcements and betrays in the job advertisements a little more about the project:
In collaboration with Lucasfilm, the Star Wars team is developing a new AAA first-person shooter set in the Star Wars galaxy. Inspired by classics like Dark Forces and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, our story-driven single player game is built from the ground up and harnesses the power of Unreal Engine 5.
So there are two exciting bits of information in there:
- The unnamed game is made with Epic’s impressive engine, which has already caused quite a few open mouths.
- It will stick to the fan favourites Dark Forces and Jedi Knight orientate!
What were those games again?
If you don’t know why this is great news for some players: the two Doom-like titles enjoy a huge fan base despite their considerable age!
Dark Forces was released in 1995, but not in Europey. The title was indexed for 25 years it was only removed from the list in 2020. The successor Jedi Knight, on the other hand, was already extremely popular in Europey when it was released in 1997.
The games have been around for a few years now, but fans still don’t get tired of the shooters. The 4K remaster of Dark Forces, created by fans, was only released in December. You can see the trailer here:

So the fact that Respawn’s new game takes inspiration from these fan favorites is sure to bring back nostalgic memories for some.
