Brute bugs seem to be fashionable. The PS5 title Returnal is not immune to this either. Developer Housemarque had to recall patch 1.3.3, but some players could still look into the tube.
Ouch, that hurts. The 1.3.3 patch released yesterday was supposed to fix various problems in Returnal. However, that went really bad. An error in the update can apparently cause the error message CE-100028-1 more or less randomly while playing and if that happens, you have a real problem. The error apparently ensures that your savegame is corrupted.
If your PS5 automatically loads the saved game into the cloud, your previous saved game will be overwritten with the incorrect saved game and you can completely forget about all of your game progress. It is not possible to restore the previous game status, especially since there is currently no option to save game statuses on a USB medium.
Patch 1.3.3 was withdrawn immediately after the bug was recognized and the game was brought back to version 1.3.1. If you have already installed the patch, you have no choice but to delete the game and download it from scratch. Housemarque recommends playing Returnal only after another patch has been released. Some games already report that patch 1.3.4 is available, but official confirmation is still pending. It is also still open whether the update will be able to repair any defective scores.
The enthusiasm of the players concerned should be limited, after all Returnal is a rock-hard chunk and there is only one score.
