That your plane crashes on a Pacific island, that the island on which you settle is surrounded by sharks and sunken ships, that you must survive based on coconuts while you fabricate the way out of that hell of water and sun. The premise of Stranded Deep is as good as any other game survival of success that comes to mind.
However, not all games become recommendable, or even classic, only based on solid ideas. After several days stranded on the console version of Stranded DeepOnly the conformity from that initial idea of 2015 – which is still in early access – diminishes your chances of becoming a great.
Imagine being a castaway
Anyone who has played a survival game can get an idea of what awaits them in Stranded Deep. After being stranded in the ocean with an inflatable raft, our goal is to try to survive in the short term and find a way to escape in the long run.
Your island contains trees from which to extract wood, palm trees that offer wood, coconuts and leaves, yucca plants from which to obtain fiber to create ropes, stones that can become weapons and, of course, different animals to bring to your mouth. once broken up and cooked.
In addition to all those objects that you can walk through the production chain, from the original raw material to the final product, the world of Stranded Deep It hides other special objects that you can find lying around or hidden safely in a series of sunken ships that populate the map.
Between them, you can go from building the classic bonfire and the arrow arch to majestic houses and vehicles with which to move from here to there. Something to keep in mind because your initial raft is slow and clumsy, and the lack of sources it will force you to explore beyond your initial island.
Surviving in a sparse and hostile environment
Having to worry about your hunger and thirst, meeting those needs is relatively easy from the start of the game. You start by feeding on crabs and drinking coconut water to, for a bit of exploration and crafting later, create water filters and potato plantations.
To more buildings, even with elements that you had previously created, a higher level of crafting, which opens up new possibilities in each of the branches available for tools, weapons, construction and vehicles.
Once your island is controlled and its depths explored, it's time to travel to the next one to do the same in another place and continue discovering new objects and possibilities that continue expanding the cycle. The new island may have other animals, or a much larger wreck that requires an oxygen cylinder to be explored calmly.
But although the vein of that initial pull is undeniable and can catch you for hours, the lack of variety ends up taking its toll on the proposal. His surprises, placed at the end rather than spread out to make the routine more bearable, are just that, surprises, so you're going to be likely to spend much of the game thinking there's not much more to scratch.
Depleted by variety and errors
Only what was seen in its trailer and the shadows that appear on your crafting list invite you to continue, anticipating that there is something else that you have not yet found and that, perhaps, is worth looking for. Is the case really effort is rewarded And its end is one of the craziest and most satisfying that I remember, but the stretch to get there can be done very uphill.
The main culprit for this is its map and its islands, a square surrounded by practically identical areas between them that, after having walked through five different ones without visualizing really interesting changes, get enthusiasm completely decay and the desire to go further fades.
To that, a big problem in itself, we have to add the bugs
Luckily there is a way to avoid those errors if they occur – it has not happened to me in every game – but that does not detract from the fact that a game with five years behind it continues to suffer such basic problems. If unfortunately you get one of those games having advanced enough, the mosquito can be monumental.
iGamesNews's opinion
Stranded Deep has become his arrival at PS4 and Xbox One in one of the hottest games in recent weeks. The push of your good reception in PC, and an idea as solid as it is attractive, they have done more for him than the game gives you after several hours trying to squeeze his experience.
With an outstanding start and endOnly the central part of the adventure, far below the rest, can make you leave early. If you endure, the reward promises to be the most rewarding, but it will not be easy, and not precisely because it is an extremely difficult game.
