Rian Johnson isn’t going to let anyone forget his ongoing detective fiction saga starring Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, as the third film has just been given a title ( Wake Up Dead ) and a tentative release date.
The announcement, made via Netflix’s official channels as well as the filmmakers’ social media, is just a small teaser and promises that the third sequel will be released on Netflix sometime in 2025, but fans are already coming up with all sorts of wild theories about the plot.

In late 2023, we read that Johnson was writing a script for his third Benoit Blanc mystery, and it looks like that process is going just as smoothly as his past work. We also know that the basic plot has been set for several years, so now it’s just a matter of finishing the final script and starting pre-production. Now it looks like we’ll hear about the casting of his next film soon.
Waking the Dead: Knives Out will arrive three years after The Glass Onion, which was released in the same timeframe following Knives Out’s unexpected success and Netflix’s acquisition of the rights to Johnson’s planned sequel. Not even the coronavirus pandemic that has devastated Hollywood has been able to slow down Johnson’s creative process and the sequel, so it’s not surprising that Waking the Dead won’t skip 2025 unless the studio hits a major snag or rejiggers its release schedule.
Netflix is hoping to replicate the success of Glass Onion in late 2022 and release Waking the Dead around Christmas 2025, a time slot they have been saving for blockbusters like Squidward Season 2, but it will be a while before we get any official confirmation. In fact, Netflix is one of those studios/platforms that likes to keep release dates and marketing activities secret for as long as possible, as they traditionally have a full schedule and many competitors.
